QVGA/VGA and CAB files/Installing apps?

Hey everybody,

I recently purchased a Samsung Omnia i900, and obviously i've been browsing all around the web looking for nice apps, themes, etc to use with it. However, i'm a little stumped with some things:

First of all, what type of screen does the i900 have? When downloading an app, there appears to be VGA and QVGA versions, but I have no idea which I should download. A good example of this is at http://www.wifimonster.net/downloads.php

Secondly, when downloading apps, there's two things provided, a ZIP and a .CAB file. What exactly do I do with them? Just download them both and whack them in any folder, then open the .CAB file from the phone to install the app?

Thanks a lot for any help, and I look forward to becoming a pretty active member of this epic community. :)

EDIT: Probably should have whacked this in the 'absolute beginners' section. B)

The omnia uses WQVGA which is 420x200 (i think) pixels. I know theres a program that can alter the resolution for certain programs but I can't remember the name or even if it works well. You extract the .cab for the .zip, then the .cab is installed on your phone. Install on the My Storage portion of your phone rather than My Device if prompted.

Hello and Welcome...

To answer your questions

Screen is wqvga type, which means that majority of the apps designed for qvga or wqvga screens is going to work. If you like to get full details on omnia i900 or any other phone for this matter go to www.gsmarena.com.

To deal with zip/rar files, google "pocketRAR" freeware. It is a program for unzipping or unraring files. Install via PC. Overall straight forward, in my opinion, the easiest way for noobs to deal with this type of files. Usually developers pack cab files into zip or rar archive. Cab files are the installation files for WM devices. After you unrar files you are going to see a cab file, sometimes some other files. Double click on the cab. Installation goes automatically. You just need to pick the location to install the programs (preferably "my storage" or storage card" unless noted otherwise).
