Guest Mercy Medical Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) I recently updated my Samsung Omnia so the GPS is unlocked (along with various other updates). It finally appears that my GPS is working when I get on Google Maps as it comes up with a relatively close location to where I am. The problem I'm finding is when attempting to use the GPS in other programs such as Bing. It seems as though while I do have GPS unlocked, the GPS signal isn't very good. Even when I use Google Maps it appears to constantly be looking for satellites. When I attempt to use the GPS in other programs, it seems as though the satellites can never be found. From my memory, there used to be a way to access the GPS options through the settings on the Omnia, but those options seem to have disappeared. Also, the icon on the front screen that I thought was an indication of GPS being on (the circle, with the cross lines through the middle and the "wave" icons coming off of it) does not indicate that the GPS is on. Is there anyway to improve my GPS signal? Am I missing something here? It just appears that the GPS is not working as well as it should be working. Any suggestions? Any one else have this issue? Thanks! UPDATE: I am stupid. I ended up figuring out what I was doing wrong and got it working. HOORAY! Edited January 8, 2010 by Mercy Medical
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 its a cell GPS, its not the best. Bad weather, being inside or around lots of buildings and such can give it some trouble. just make sure you got the port and baud settings right in the programs options port com8, baud 57600
Guest bpivk Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Also, the icon on the front screen that I thought was an indication of GPS being on (the circle, with the cross lines through the middle and the "wave" icons coming off of it) does not indicate that the GPS is on.AFAIK there isn't an icon for GPS activity so that's something else.

Guest leon0000 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I think you should update to a New Rom, at least the Rom after April 2009, then you need GPS Mod Driver with Tomtom or R66, it works great!!! I900 GPS signal not bad, actually very good. haha!!
Guest DFKT Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I second the GPSModDriver mentioned above :)
Guest jh787 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Have you tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2? It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique. The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS. Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data. This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes. I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant. There are various other settings that can be played with and tried out but this setting alone got rid of the only flaw i could find in the Omnia2.
Guest aibrean Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I use GPS Toggle. It gets me within 50 meters.
Guest abuttio Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Have you tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2? This doesn't work with the stock Verizon Rom, is there an application that I can call from the windows directory that this dial code would call?
Guest jh787 Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I compared the registry of my brothers htc (which has tomtom working)and my omnia i8000 and saw that among other htc specific settings one of the differences was that the intermediate driver had no buffer settings in registry. I decided to back up my registry and delete both incoming and outgoing buffers and now i have an immediate signal and once locked it does not jump from one satellite to another, they are consistent blue bars. i have it set to com4 with 4800 baud rate. and it is set to built in gps in tomtom. i recommend that everybody try this but please back up your registry first. Please provide some feedback and let others know if it works for you

Guest jh787 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) tried this in i900, fast fix but no accuracy at all.. thanks anyway.. what have you set your vaccuracy and horizontal accuracy too? also what is your refresh rate/response time/ qop delay/ max location age?
