Ladies and gents.

I ain't all that technical when it comes to building ROMs so I'm a supporter of Paul and MoDaCo for the work he's doing for us and it's a great investment to recognise the work that Paul does and enable him to keep throwing out the updates he is providing us (why HTC with all their resources can't knock out updates like Paul, I don't understand).

I was invited this evening to join a limited testing pool for Paul's new ROM deployment system, the kitchen.

What you get is the ability (web based) to choose what you want to include in the ROM and you get your own custom ROM created for you and downloaded for you to apply to your Hero. This is exactly what I wanted even though I didn't know it.

I was on RC2. Wiped my apps (by repartitioning the SD) and applied the update ZIP file. It was rapid applying the ZIP and restarting the device. Now I have none of the stuff I didn't need on my phone and all the stuff I wanted and use regularly.

This is the way it needs to be. Paul, thank you so much. You've nailed it.

I have been very lucky. I think Paul will be looking at giving more supporters access to the kitchen though.

My limited understanding is that Paul can't throw loads of people into it just in case it gooses the system. I guess if it creates a different ROM for everyone that managing any issues would be nuts for Paul and that the simple resource requirements for creating individual ROMs for each person means that it can't be released en masse.

It is a great system.
