okay, so im trying to put the recovery image on so i can at custom roms, pre simple

however,

as seen on the unlockr tutorial, they always go on about "FIRMWARE 2.73.x.x AND ABOVE MUST DOWNGRADE FIRST..." or something

my phone specs are as following

Firmware version:

1.5

Baseband version:

63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18

Kernal version:

2.6.27-8dd6deee

Build number:

2.73.728.5 146733 CL#61267

Software version:

1.0.0.A6288

My question is, What exactly is my firmware? and is it safe to proceed , or do i have 2 do that goldcard bullshit before i do the recovery image?

thankyou :)

(my phone is a virgin, its never had anything put on it, or been modified in anyway.)

"You already have the answers"

bahah nice way of putting it

im assuming that means that its the ONLY way 2 do it... which isnt even safe at all... :)

so much for getting a phone with the app store... :'(

There's no real risk at all, unless you go out of your way to brick your phone like pulling the battery during recovery installation.

Once your recovery image is on, then you can flash images till you're blue in the face and you won't brick it.

Indeed. You've already posted the tutorial link, which you just need to read.

Your firmware version confirms you need to downgrade.

Or read my guide (which will link back to one of the downgrade pages anyway) at http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...e-how-to-guide/

You DO NOT need to downgrade anymore, follow this tutorial http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-ro...o-in-one-click/

I just it myself tonight on my updated Orange Hero and i'm now running the modaco rom.

Well I found that just to be safe, I always did the downgrade procedure, just incase. Basically mate, all you have to do is make sure you have over 70% battery and do the procedure, there is a negligible chance that your phone will brick
