Guest Seabro Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Hi guys, I have totally n00b questions What does it meat "to root your phone". Why do I need to do that?? What I get if I root my phone?? Then... I realize that ROM with baseband, CSC and other stuff is different that OS ROMs, like Android 1.5, 1.6 or Eclair! Or I am wrong??! For expamle, if I update my galaxy with new custom rom with eclair, do I have to do the update of baseband, CSC first or the update do it automatically. How or can I extract my ROM from phone so if something goes wrong I can restore original settings?? tnx for your answers
Guest jdxx76 Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I know that rooting your phone allows for pretty much total control of you phone. You can install some apps from the market place that require a rooted phone. The other things is enabling the ability to save and run apps you download to an SD card. That's pretty much all I know.

Installing a Rom will simply give your phone a slightly changed feel, it usually will run faster/smoother and could well have some pre installed apps/programs. You will need to do a nandroid backup before doing anything. Finally, make sure you have got the correct rom for your phone and DON'T take the battery out during the install as it'll brick the phone. If your not sure, just keep reading up until you are happy, if there is any doubt don't do it!
Guest Seabro Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 OK, i get it but.. If I root the phone or mod the phone with different ROM (read CSC), can I lock it on different network or carrier so it is not SIM-free anymore!
