Signal Quality Measurement

Hi,

I am working for a research lab running experiments on different types of phones including the Samsung Omnia SCH-i910 on Verizon's network. I've written an application that logs various parameters about the phone including the signal quality and the current cell tower ID. I do all this through the RIL proxy (ril.dll).

My issue is that the signal quality measurement returned from the RIL proxy (via a call to RIL_GetSignalQuality) is not precise. In other words, it only returns three different values.

Does anyone know how to improve the precision of the signal quality measurement on the Omnia?

Or in general, does anyone know of any other ways to query the current signal strength of the radio?
