Way to automatically monitor HTC Support Site

If you, like me, are getting into the daily routine of checking HTC support in case a new ROM appears, try this website.

http://www.changedetection.com/

I just discovered it (heard from a friend), and if you give it your email, they will email you with details of page changes.

The link needed for HTC Hero Support is

 http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=283&act=sd&cat=all

So, if you set this up, you'll get notified by email when they update the site at any point in future.

Or, you could use their good old-fashioned RSS feed at http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadrss.aspx?p_id=283

Let's hope we get a release soon, and hopefully this will save you a minute or 2 each day...

lol i just check modaco daily, i'm sure we would know it pretty soon here :)

I do love the idea of everyone assuming that it'd get posted here and no-one looking. Imagine if the ROM had been out months and people were all still moaning about HTC being too slow.

Given that if HTC's Twitter breathes then 2 threads get made I don't think it's likely we will miss it!

Personally, I'll be waiting for the MCR version anyway.

I think that 2.0/2.1 is already ready but HTC is not releasing it yet to cash i on the initial rush for N1.

We might be looking at a Jan end Feb release....But then Legend/Bravos are also slated to launch in March/April so who knows :)

Whatever the case maybe...I will wait for MCR4 as well and not screw up my phone with HTC release B)

Yes, I'll also probably wait for MCR, although I might be tempted to get the RUU and take out the ROM.zip and see what I could do in anticipation (ie. do a quick root of the zip file and pop it on, without the SPL or recovery, just to try it out. I've got an unlocked fastboot anyway, so I might give it a shot, but roll on MCR4!

As for timings, I'm guessing we're looking at nearer March, when the nexus will have died down a bit, and I'm sure that a little announcement like this wouldn't really detract from new product releases anyway.

But yeah, you're absolutely right that if HTC scratches its nose, we get a stupid number of threads created! @Godsdevil, I think you're right that it's pretty much done. We saw a leaked build before Xmas IIRC, which shows they are working on it, so I think they could release it whenever they wanted really.

HTC won't release until it's 99.5% bug-free though (or at least crash-free), even though they can farm out most of the support calls to carriers it's still them that gets the brunt of the "You suck!" posts if they release something buggy. We'd rather have quick and dirty stuff that we can fix ourselves, but the majority of Hero users just want it to work without rooting/abd/images/pushing and all that hassle. HTC need to provide for these people more than us.

From my own programming experience, 20% of the time taken generates 80% of the code. The last few bits takes ages :)
