Haitians Need Our Help!

Dear Fellow Modaco Member,

I'm sure that... by now... you've all heard about the tragic earthquake in Haiti and the ensuing and ongoing chaos there. In the days since, hundreds of private volunteers, numerous private aid agencies, and government aid agencies have been flowing in - slowly but surely. I am one of those private volunteers that has managed to make it here and help out.

The devastation here is beyond belief. The loss here is indescribable. Where buildings and homes once stood are now twisted, heaping, and smoldering piles of rubble. When these buildings gave way, they were still bustling with people inside. Not many made it out. In fact, cries can still be heard coming from various places, but it's nigh impossible to pinpoint them. Even if we could do so, we still cannot get to them. And as time wears on the cries subside. The bodies of those that have been found line the streets. I'm sure that you've seen this on the news as well, but what you don't see are the rats that are now running rampant to feast on both living and dead that are still trapped within the rubble.

Those who have survived mostly have no where to go do not fare any better than the dead. There aren't even enough emergency shelters available so many remain near what's left of their homes without adequate food or water. Worse, is that they are subject to the looters and vandals whom also roam around taking what they can. Many are walking injured and there just aren't adequate medical supplies available.

Though aid and volunteers are still flowing in, it is not yet nearly enough. This has indeed become a humanitarian crisis that I can legitimately rank right next to Hurricane Katrina and the Christmas Tsunami of 2004 - the first of which I also volunteered.

I'm kindly asking you to help. You don't have to come here, but you can help me and all the other good people and organizations who've come here by giving a little. Again, I'll tell you up front that I'm here, along with some other good folks, as private volunteers. We are sacrificing our own time, and money, to be here. Although we are not officially a part of any aid agency, we gladly work with many of them here on a routine basis. Any proceeds that are received go entirely towards our collective efforts here.

My asking here is highly unorthodox; however; this situation calls for all possible means necessary. For those of you who've seen me on this Omnia forum, you know then that I'm a regular contributor here. All of my posts have been legitimate and never spam. That said, I advise you to make only small donations. I'm not asking you to make a huge sacrifices. A few dollars/pound/euros will actually make a big difference for the efforts being carried out here.
