Guest Arda Yilmaz Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Hi everyone. Can someone with an Omnia Pro please tell me what the GPU performance is like? Maybe some comparisons? Like to the HD2/TG01 Snapdragon. I know its most likely going to be slower due to crappy drivers from Samsung but is the performance liveable? I also heard that the carousel in SPB lags with reflections turned on. Cheers!

Get to play with a load of phones as part of a wireless research project :) To be honest I was a little dissapointed with the graphics performance. When running touchflo 3d it is quite laggy. It improves a bit when you set the cpu to high (a nice built in function samsung have out in) but I wouldnt say it was smooth. I normally use and cook for the i900 and the first thing you can notice is the AMOLED screens are very clear :) Good colour quality, sufficient lighting etc. So this would be a plus for graphics i guess :) (kind of just coupling it in, no point in good graphics with a crap screen) My opinion on it is: It could be a very nice phone (although a bit chunky) but i think it needs to be running a custom rom. Samsung have dug into the system and added the black/white/blue style menus. Personally I prefer the wm 6.5 default filel explorer, settings menus etc. The qwerty keyboard space bar also needs to be a little longer. In comparison to other phones, I would say the graphic performance runs in between the i900 and htc hd2 (on standard drivers not the new xda variety) The phone would be a beast if it had an improved graphics driver (may see one come from xda or possibly firmware update from samsung) and running winmo 6.5.3+ (bigger check boxes and new start button layout etc) this one has the smaller checkboxes like the 6.1 builds. If your looking at buying the phone, think about whether your gona be able to keep it standard or not. As these have to be flashed through octans, i think theyre brickable. It may be worth going HTC for the NBH SD card flash option :) which is pretty safe :)

Some forums I've looked at make comparisons between different processors and the OP is able to produce 4M triangles whereas the HD2/TG01 is able to do something around the 22M mark. I don't know why. Surely the 200MHz can't make such a dramatic difference. Even if it is a newer processor. I would go for the HD2 but the absence of TV-out kills me, and the TG01 has a REALLY bad camera and I mean BAD. With custom roms, (going for 6.5.3 here) are they able to take full advantage of the hardware? Like the built in compass, HW keyboard (obviously!), sensors, etc. I hope those custom roms solve the memory issue as well. 60MB after a soft reset seems too little for comfort!
