HD2 or B7610

Bottom line is I'm stuck between choosing between these two great devices.

B7610

Advantages

- Affordable

- Great keyboard (although the sensitivity of the HD2's display eliminates the need for this)

- Feature packed camera

- Internal storage

Disadvantages

- Chunky build

- Not capable of running WM7 due to capacitive display absence possibly making the device obsolete

- Slow/Old generation processor with significantly slower GPU

- Slow bulky ROM

- Reserved memory leaving only 140mb accessible

- Very soft digitizer prone to scratches

HD2

Advantages

- New gen 1GHz processor with fast GPU

- WM7 capability

- Large Multitouch display

- Fast ROM with decent support and Developer support

- Lots of RAM

- Slim solid metal build

- WiFi Draft-N capability

Disadvantages

- High price point

- No TV-Out (very disappointing for a multimedia device)

- camera quality is a little worse than Omnia's but I hate the fact that there is no 720p capability whereas the Omnia does

- No USB hosting? (Omnia probably doesn't have this either but I may be wrong for the HD2 so please confirm whether it has it as it would be useful for the Zeno USB packages)

- Less format support built in.

I would go for the TG01 alternatively but it also suffers from not having capability for WM7 and has a VERY bad camera! Please post up your opinions along with other devices that may be on par with these other two.

I'm really leaning toward the HD2 because of the amount of support it gets but I really don't like the idea of it being 720p incapable and that the Omnia family have better cameras and media support. I want to make the right decision because to be perfectly honest, $800 is quite a lot to shell out on a mobile device and I want it to be a quality purchase.

If a good camera/cheap phone is all your after go for the samsung. If you want a good touch device & have the money spend it on the HD2. (that is have a good interface/phone or smartphone experience)

went from omnia to -> HD2 = great experience, quite happy with media playback but camera is hit & miss.

Hey. Thought I'd add in my thoughts on this one.

Im taking part in a wireless research project where we are testing mobile devices for working wirelessly. We needed to use mobiles so i chose the omnia pro as one of the candidates because i thought it looked really good.

To be fair its an okay phone but I would get the htc hd2

Reasons are:

B7610:

Pro's:

Physical keyboard

AMOLED displays nice

Cons:

Screen is quite responsive but not as good as capacitive

Samsung have dug into the .dll's and the menus can be a bit confusing (I prefer the std winmo menus)

Very chunky!! lol

Space bar on qwerty needs to be bigger - also keys arent raised to distinguish one from another which makes typing feel a little awkward

Has potential but needs a custom rom flashing to it (still have the chance of bricking the phone!) Might be nicer with a custom 6.5.3 build.

HTC HD2:

Pro's:

Looks nice out the box

Massive capacitive screen

Graphics drivers from XDA developers means great performance (search up on it, not the standard drivers) massive fps goes great with TF3.5

!!!!!!!!!Can flash a rom by .NBH file on SD Card!!!!!!!!! This is the selling point for me. Custom ROM's are bound to appear on XDA as its an HTC board. SD card flashing is much safer and also makes the phone much harder to brick!! You will be able to try out all the newest builds of windows mobile with little risk :)

Higher clock speed CPU

Cons:

Has needed alot of software updates to get it running smoothly (camera bugs etc) but this is hopefully sorted out by now.

No physical qwerty, depends on how you get on with on screen keyboard.......(Swype coming out soon :) or is around if you know where to look)

Overall I would say theres no competition to be honest. After getting my hands on the B7610 after having used an omnia i900 for a while, I was really looking forwards to being blown away by the phone......but I just wasnt :)

Thanks for your ideas. I think I might go for the Pro here. Yes the HD2 is a great device don't get me wrong, but overall I think Samsung has done a better job at making a terrific all round device. If I choose the HD2, I'm going to miss the camera features of my old Omnia, which I think is almost on par with the Nokia Carl Zeiss lenses. Performance is not as great as the HD2 but the power packed in that device is enough to handle anything that Winmo throws at you at the moment. The HD2 is still in it's infancy and needs a few things fixed up. I might go with the HD3 when it gets released. I was especially disappointed with the no TV-Out and the bad camera performance compared to the Omnia family.

- If the menus, are confusing, can't I just turn off TouchWiz?

- There are custom ROMS out for the B7610 but their just not as wide spread as the Omnia II because the device hasn't been out for as long. If a HTC Sense rom is released, I won't take a second before deciding to flash that on my Pro. I LOVE Sense UI! Rodrigofd and Secany are great rom developers, or alternatively, I might even try build a custom rom myself as I have had some experience with older winmo OS's and flashing custom firmware onto iPhones. :)

- Very chunky? Is it worse than the HTC TyTN II?? :) That was my first winmo 6 device! VEEERRRRYY chunky indeed!
