Guest mehall Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 From my kitchen (don't get 3G throughout my house): I'll do one at work tomorrow, should be much better.
Guest robot1000 Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I'm on O2 Simplicity in London
Guest Calamity James Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) What is O2 Simplicity? It's making me very jealous of my "3G" speeds... (with a full signal on Orange, although it doesnt look it in that screenshot, i moved my phone away from the window after the test): Edited January 20, 2010 by Calamity James
Guest robot1000 Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Simplicity is the tariff on the O2 network
Guest nxsfan Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 3Mobile Contract with internet add-on. Loc: Loughborough, Sever: Birmingham. The first run got 2666 download, but I did not have shootme installed.
Guest Kandesys Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 On Three (UK) Pay as you go (3Pay). Full signal (4 bars), in Leeds, W.Yorks.
Guest bas-r Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) I don't really see the point in having a blazing fast 3G connection: I only use my phone internet connection on the road for browsing and reading emails. I don't need a super connection for that, do I? I know that Microsoft once said that 640k of memory would always be sufficient for the home user, and how wrong did they turn out to be? So I'm not arguing that we will never need supersonic speed, but for now my 384kbit download and 128 upload speed is sufficient, since I'm not Youtubing in HD when on the road, but only reading text emails and doing some occasional webbrowsing. Oh and that connection is limited as a cheap 3G option with my telecom provider, not because the network cannot handle faster speeds. Edited January 20, 2010 by bas-r
Guest flash2004 Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Wow.. three UK is really fast !!
Guest Calamity James Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I found 3G very useful the other week in a hotel for my party and we had no music or Wi-Fi so my Spotify Premium account came in very handy! :) I'm going to try another test at work, Tunbridge Wells as opposed to Maidstone... Cant be bothered to fiddle with ShootMe, results: Down: 867kbps, Up: 269kbps That's a bit more respectable!

BTW is there an easy way to check how much you've used without downloading an app to tell you?
Guest Jan M Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Wow how much bandwidth did you use doing that? BTW is there an easy way to check how much you've used without downloading an app to tell you? I use 3G Watchdog...don't think there's a way to count transferred bytes without an app.

Guest Spook Tooth Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Using T-Mobile UK 3G network (Camden, London): 5 results: Downstream Upstream Latency 19kbps! 161kbps 448ms 509kbps 368ms 368ms 248kbps 188kbps 129ms 517kbps 392kbps 146ms 549kbps 284kbps 351ms Paptastic result for the 1st test due to signal trouble (these tests were taken one after the other at circa 1am today). Basically the network is all over the place with the only real consistency in latency being rather dire. Even whilst out and about in central London, whilst on a bus and walking, the signal was highly variable with 3G disappearing much of the time, even if albeit for just the time it took to go past one particular building/whatnot. 1am test at night was indoors right by my computer (source of emi maybe) with wireless networks all over the place (people's broadband routers). You'd maybe expect less people to be hammering their 3G mobile phone networks this late at night, no?
Guest wimpydragon Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) I think we're overloading Birmingham ;-) When using Birmingham I couldn't get anything over 158kbps *down* (yes, that really says 158) and 1200 *up*. I switched to Paris and got 3489 down, 1200 up. Switching back to Coventry and I'm still at 3176/1233 Finally, back to Birmingham again and the reconnection seems to have helped - 3175/1035 I'm on 3UK in Leeds Edited January 21, 2010 by wimpydragon
