How to disable everything but WiFi?

I'll be travelling abroad soon and I don't want to get stung for any roaming charges like the delivery of non important calls and texts on my PAYG tariff.

I still need to use the phone for accessing stored documents as well as connecting to WiFi in the hotel.

I figured I'd just stick it into airplane mode when I got on the plane and just leave it on for the duration of the trip but I realised that would knock out the WiFi too.

Is there some way I can disable my network voice & data connections but leave the WiFi on?

Can't think of a way of disabling voice & sms directly from the phone but how about just removing your SIM? I've just tried it on mine and the wi-fi's still working. Failing that, just get a cheapo PAYG sim and don't tell anyone the number.

Edit: Too slow :) Did have to check it actually worked though.

Ahhh, I'd not tried removing the SIM. I just figured the phone would just refuse to do anything. That's probably the answer so thanks.

Yes, Airplane mode can be found in Settings -> Wireless controls.

It disables all wireless connections apparently. :)

Keep the power button pressed for a couple of seconds and you can select flight mode too, guess that's the quickest/easiest method.

With WiFi on I tap to turn on Airplane mode.

WiFi turns off.

Tap to turn WiFi on and the icon changes to refreshing and just stays there.

WiFi won't come back on until I turn off Airplane mode.

It's a useful set of widgets for keeping though.

choose OneClick Airplane mode widget

then on next screen at top it says wifi (tick this box)

then what other settings you want to do then press ok at bottom
