Guest timh30 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Hi guys, I recently obtained a pulse. I have noticed that the charger is unable to both run and charge the phone at the same time, and gradually the battery level drops. This makes the phone unusable as a satnav device etc. I've tried using higher amperage chargers and the problem still exists. Is this a general issue with these phones, or specific to mine? The battery shows as 'good' in the settings on the phone and charges fine if not being used, and has a life of 3 days or so otherwise. Many thanks, Tim.
Guest demusss Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 You'll find that if you unplug the charger and leave the phone for a little while the battery level increases. Well it does on mine anyway.
Guest rss2k Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I wonder if your cable is alright. I use my Pulse daily with Copilot and works a charm in a standard USB carcharger and a Nokia micro-usb cable. Though I miss a light on the Phone when it's charging. My old Winmo MDA Vario III has this. It happened twice that the cable was not connected and I got low battery level warnings. After about 1,5 hours of copilot use the battery was almost dead.
Guest Calamity James Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Just to add that you aren't alone with this, I've been getting the same problems when using Waze, Bluetooth and GPS on in my car plugged into the AC charger via an inverter. A warning pops up saying "Less than 30% remaining" when there was 40% when I first started the journey! I have always wondered if 500mA (or 400 as the AC charger says) is enough to efficiently charge a phones battery when it's in full use, but sometimes as has been mentioned earlier, the battery life jumps up again after disconnecting the charger!
Guest timh30 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks for the quick responses. I get the same problem with different chargers, and hence I guess it isn't related to the cable. I've even brought a mini to micro usb adapter so I can use a higher power mains and car charger (both 1A/1000mA) from my old phone, and still get the same issue. At least I'm not alone....
Guest meinnit Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I find the battery meter very unreliable eg. the phone may be at 50% and drop to 30% immediatly following a phone call and then back up to 45% a few minutes later. Those aren't the exact figures but you get the idea!
Guest robot1000 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Would it be theoretically possible to use a higher capacity battery with the phone?
Guest Bendolfc Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The battery meter is rubbish, I think when the battery is warm, it thinks there is less charge available than there is. Probably wouldn't be so bad if it never shut itself down when it thinks there is only 5% left.
Guest bounty123 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Would it be theoretically possible to use a higher capacity battery with the phone? Theoretically I think so. But there aren't replacement batteries with the same capacity, not to mention better ones.

Those aren't the exact figures but you get the idea! I have the same problem with my pulse, the battery meter goes crazy. Sometimes the phone will say it has 30% of battery left and it will suddenly die because there is no battery left. I spoke to T-mobile tech support today about the issue, they believe it to be a problem with the actual battery so they are going to send me a new battery out (I get to keep the old one so now il have 2 batteries :) ). Whether this will correct the issue I have no idea but who knows. If it solves things I will make a note of it here.
Guest michlaustn Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Just an update, my battery arrived and it made no difference. A a result I have had to have my phone sent in for inspection as a number of times now it has died from lack of battery, even though the about phone section said it had enough power to do the task I was doing.

Well you have answered my question from another thread then, its not worth bothering, mind you if they send me a spare battery that would be helpful.
