Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) Hi Friends, I just purchased the Omni Pro B7610 yesterday and been configuring and installing apps. It is great to see this awesome community which provides vital help for winmo in general and Samsung smartphone in particular, accept my congratulations for creating this. I am new and I am not aware if this has been answered before so please point me to it if it has been. I have following questions for my wifi issues, I am using a Belkin router and the signal is strong, the router is right next to me and I have no problems connecting to the wifi using my laptop: 1. Now my phone has the winmo 6.1 version and there is a problem with wifi, I have added a new connection and also got connected to it at times, but the connection drops off sometimes or can not connect at all at times. 2. I have created a new wifi connection and given it the network key but still it asks me the key again everytime I wasnt to connect to that connection. It would be great if you could answer these. thanks in advance for your help Ednak Edited January 23, 2010 by ednakram

Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 delete all your network profiles on your sell phone. wich security settings do you have on your wifi network ? Thanks for reply mate. How do I delete network profiles on cellphone ? U mean the wifi connection that I added? I have WPA-Personal with TKIP on on wifi network.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Do you have samsung WIFI application ? or are u using windows wifi application ? - Samsung application is the skinned black with a big on/off button in the middle. in the menu, you can chose remove profiles or something like that. highlight all the profiles (by tapping them) en click done. - Windows wifi settings, tab and hold the wifi profile en select remove or delete or something.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) You never have to add a wifi profile, except when you want to be an access point. You configure the network, just by connecting to it. I prefere the windows mobile wifi setting to do that. ( in wm6.1 I had bad excperience with the wifi app from samsung, profiles listed but their settings weren't saved etc.) how to get to WM wifi settings, go to connection manager - menu - wifi settings - menu - MS settings tab the connection you want to connect to. ( if it isn't listed , wait 60 seconds. ( that is the interval WM will check for new networks )) Select 'connecting to internet' , next, Some wifi manufactures are mixing up TKIP & AES. ( espacially linksys ) so if TKIP doesn't work, go back here en change it to AES. & try again. next next next .. and you are ready, it should connect now. Edited January 23, 2010 by b7610_fan
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks for hte quick response fan, yes i am using the Samsung wifi settings , with large on/off button and then concentric circles. How do I access the WinMobile wifi settings ? I went to Start Menu -> Settings -> NetWork Settings -> Wi-Fi and I again get the same Samsung settings menu i.e. concentric circles with the connection listed.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) "I went to Start Menu -> Settings -> NetWork Settings -> Wi-Fi" ok once you are there, select menu en select "MS settings" Edited January 23, 2010 by b7610_fan
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 "I went to Start Menu -> Settings -> NetWork Settings -> Wi-Fi" ok once you are there, select menu en select "MS settings" Sorry fan I can NOT see the "MS Settings" menu, I am running Window Mobile 6.1, is there a setting one has to do to see that menu ?
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) on WM6.5 there is an MS settings option. So maybe on 6.1 this menu option isn't there. So the only way to get to the MS settings, is to go to start -> windows mobile settings -> connections -> wifi if you don't have windows mobile settings ( in start menu it is called settings, it has the same icon as the samsung settings except for the blue circle ) Samsung hides the original windows mobile settings. You should unhide windows mobile settings in the registry of you device Source : ;Get settings from windows mobile back. Samsung hides it. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo] "HideSettings"=dword:00000000 if you don't have a registry editor on windows mobile, download and install PHM registry editor: http://pocketland.de/util/getdownload.php?...ab&id=22357 the official site of phm is temporarily down Edited January 23, 2010 by b7610_fan
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks a lot again fan! I will try that and let u knw.
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) hi fan, I installed the reg editor but could not find the path till only, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell So i should create a key "StartInfo" there and then give it a dword value of 0 right ? Edited January 23, 2010 by ednakram
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I added the key but still could not see the menu "MS Settings" what could I be missing here fan ? thanks again .
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I think you didn't go to the correct key. the key startinfo must exists. I have edited post 9 with more info. I hope you understand all now.
Guest ednakram Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I was looking at the exact same path fan, and there was no "StartInfo" key there, perhaps there is a difference in 6.1 and 6.5 there. And on clicking Start I get a menu on the bottom of which are menus "Others" "Settings" "Task Switcher". I find no "MS Settings" anywhere. This is really frustrating the way Samsung has packaged it. Thanks for your awesome help though. Do tell me if you have any more clues, if you want I can send you screen shots. BTW I was able to connect again to wifi, after switching it off and on again, I guess wifi can not connect when the phone is connected to a PC via a USB?? I am not certain, what is going on there, or perhaps my phone and laptop both can not connect at the same time. Anyways, I have more tasks ahead of me, like cofiguring gmail and other apps etc.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 right, I forgot. on wm6.1 you have to disable tochwiz then you can access settings windows mobile settings. to disable, as far as I can remember: Settings -> General Settings -> scroll down to the bottom and you will find Samsung TouchWiz UI. now tab your start menu, and you have to normal windows mobile start menu.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 yes it is normal, activesync disables all data connections if you are connected to the pc.
Guest ednakram Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Atlast phew! I can see the menu :-) Thanks a lot fan for all the help.
