Hi

I have very recently got 2 new pulses and gave one to the girlfriend.

Mine needs charging once every 2 days and hers every night, even tho i do a lot more with it usually.

the only real difference is that i am using the custom vanilla rom from this site (great btw many thanks) and hers is stock tmobile (with the update).

can that really a difference?

neither of use any widgets at the moment. is there any apps that can help track down why hers is draining quicker? or shall i just nuke it and vanilla rom it??

really puzzled, any help would be great

On the T Mobile ROM mine used to struggle to last a day. I recently moved to the Vanilla 1.7 ROM and I get nearly 2 days out of it now Its running the same apps (Panda Home, weather widget, facebook widget etc) so I can only think its something running on the T Mobile ROM like their "Contacts" app or something like that maybe ?

I found that the 1.7 ROM gave a lot better battery life than the stock T-Mobile which also ran a lot slower. I can only guess that the UI or some background processes were consuming more CPU and therefore using more battery.

I have the bog standard Pulse with the December update, and I am getting 3 days between charges. Using pandaHome HTC Hero theme, widgets for wifi and 3g on home screen so they are both off when I don't need to use internet.

Pleased so far, and don't think I have the guts to update ROM!! I am not that techy!

updated her phone, sorted! 1.7 vanilla rom is on it.

updating the phone is quite simple. its about 4 simple steps.

these guys at the forum made it simple

I use Weather Widgets. The paid for version gives you a "Weather and flip clock" widget - which looks surprisingly similar to HTC's....!

what's the best app to see what is running as i use advanced task manager but when it's killed apps the built in task manager still says others are running

my battery doesn't even last a day! i reckoned the bbc news widget might be a culprit so have removed that

The built in task manager doesn't necessarily show the currently running apps. It shows the last 6 apps that you ran.

Out of interest, what battery voltage figures do people have in the battery info section? Mine's 3997 mV.

Think it depends on the charge level and how much activity there is on the phone. When mine is fully charged and rested for a short while it's usually 4.224. At the moment I've got a 45% charge & it's 3.792

Right, that makes sense. Battery level is currently 91% and battery voltage is 4085 mV. Had less juice (70%odd) before.

Wow thanks for that - never knew that!

How do you guys find these things out!!

Have to say, I'm using the 'as sold rom' not even the December update!

Get at least 2 to 3 days battery from mine running ahome & hero skin and 3g!

AND my keyboard works fine on a flat surface too... maybe I had one that was ok?! lol

I find the battery life very poor, even with minimal usage but now I've finally found a way to save a considerable amount of battery power! I simply disabled the following 2 options:

Settings -> Data synchronization -> Background data

Settings -> Security & location -> Use wireless networks

Before I made the changes I was using 10% battery power on standby overnight (approx 8 hours) and now it's using just 2%! I don't have any widgets, background apps or auto-syncs running. I'm not sure which setting had the most effect on battery life but I'm going to do some more tests to find out.

Don't know if anyone has already tried but I installed Timeriffic today to disable the phone etc. at night, hopefully this will help with the battery issue ;)

Settings -> Data synchronization -> Background data

This one has given my lots of battery life back. Phone is on 91% charge right now, would normally be at 60% at this time of the day.

True, but you will lose out on automatic email sync

Even without auto sync on, Background Data alone has a significant effect on battery life! It's a tough trade off as I like the idea of having push email.

Anyone know what Background Data actually does?

Found you your answer on a another site

background data is referring to any data any app needs such as services like weather apps or the market or gps.

So basically it stops your phone from accessing the web

Yeh just tried launching Market and it asked me to Enable background data... hmmm...

Although will leave it as is, with it disabled, at work I have internet access to my emails anyway, its mainly when I am on the road when I want that so can always switch it back on.

Thats not totally true. After searching several sites and forums it seems that the setting is indeed used for background data however its up to an application whether it actually obeys this setting (which almost all apps seem not to!)

http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/256...round-data.html

The background data setting is to allow you to control whether apps can access data. Apps can choose not to obey that setting and just access anyway. Unfortunately, Google apps obeys it.

Another thing is that google apps uses a lot of power with a data connection and background data enabled and it hardly sends out any data.

I also found another forum post claiming that this setting is in place so that only one process deals with background data access but it seems apps simply don't obey this setting.

I dont understand why this setting uses up so much power even when you have nothing syncing in the background!! What is it actually doing?!
