Pulse as MP3 Player

I am without my trusty Shure E3cs since I left them at a friend's whilst away so am looking for a replacement to work with my Pulse. Just wondered what the good people of the Modaco forum were using?

Should say I've been researching things but don't really understand all the impedance/sensitivity stuff - important if you want to avoid hissing or so I've come to understand (as I am very susceptible to hearing that frequency it seems).

My Shure E3cs hissed like mad with my Nokia N95, so much so listening was very fatiguing and unpleasant (unlike my old Creative Muvo 4GB, which didn't seem to hiss at all). I am aware it was likely the N95 that was the chief problem and not the Shures but have experienced a fair amount of hiss (though far lesser) on the T-Mobile Pulse.

Can't really find any definitive info but reckon on getting something high(er)-end, like Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10s maybe. Look for high impedance (& low sensitivity)??

Any suggestions? :)

just add in an impedance adapter, cost about a tenner on ebay otherwise head-fi.org would be a better place to ask than here

If you are wanting some cheap headphones whilst waiting for your sexy shures, you might want to try the sennheiser cx500 or the (even better) SoundMAGIC PL11. I have had a pair of both of them and they are very good quality for the price.

@ John Hamelink

I have been looking at the SoundMagic's and find them intriguing so I'm gonna look into them more later on. Thanks for your suggestions, good idea really since I've not used a wide range of earphones so it'd be nice to try a few out. Quite like what I'm reading so far though.

That's a good idea - separate impedance adapters - now I'm wondering why I didn't think of that myself. Found 2 links (just two) on Ebay selling 3.5mm adapters, http://preview.tinyurl.com/yas2nq7 and http://preview.tinyurl.com/ycxwzs6. Might go for the second link (being a tight git).

Shure do a volume control accessory thing, but I can't find any stockists (as yet) so might look into that more too. Sennheiser do a volume leveller with balance built in too, so might take a better look at that. Don't know how this stuff works but it's a relief to know what they're called, cheers! It was Head-Fi that confused the hell out of me in the first place - just reading some of the threads I found about impedance and sensitivity - so glad I asked here and got some good (intelligible) advice. :)

Just to abit off-topic, but can you get good hours out of your pulse when listening to MP3's? I find the battery life too poor to even use as an MP3 player.

Luckily for a long-lasting Cowon D2, I'm able to keep my pulse some what alive for much longer :)

To be perfectly honest I rarely use a portable MP3 player, so having a device that finally had some multimedia credentials with the connectivity of the Pulse and I thought I would try getting into it again. My pockets are always jammed full of stuff so sadly no room for more electronic gadgets.

So, I haven't really used my Pulse solely for the purpose of playing music and can't really say how long the battery lasts. Despite some complaints I've seen about battery life, I think it's pretty decent all things considered. It lasts much longer than my Nokia N95 and does a lot more. I was always too afraid to use the GPS on my Nokia phone as it killed the battery in minutes. The Pulse I find, you can go nuts for a few hours or eek out a good while (5 hours?+) using GPS/3G say, whilst playing music/somesuch.

Just wondered which phones you used with your D2? Did consider dedicated MP3 player but just couldn't decide in the end. This Android phone seems to fit the bill quite nicely though I realise it's power output isn't that great compared to the N95 phone (should hiss a lot less then I guess). :)
