Rename a file in AllExp using _underscores_ (?)

It seems that # key does not work as char.map in AE when renaming a file. As you hold the key for 2secs the text of the filename is nomore highlighted as 'text' (when you choose to rename) but already highlighted as a file.

Now if you click 'Back' it takes you to the char.map but since the file is no longer being renamed, no way to insert a char from the map.

Looks like a bug to me, maybe just not thought of.. Or am I being stupid?

All ya need to do it download the Remote display prog from this thread: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3040 install it and just open allexplorer from your desktop PC, and use your PC's keyboard to insert the underscore in the file name.

But if you're gonna do that, why not just use ActiveSync? :)

The thought did occur yeah, but just make sure that you've got 'view file extensions' turned on in your folder viewing options, or you may inadvertantly rename a file to something that the spv doesnt recognise. Happened to me a few times

Theres also the few files that your PC can't see :)

Fair enough, but that isn't many. I'm sure you could cope renaming those few to something that doesn't contain an underscore

Yes yes yes. But I needed to use a bloody underscore (can't remember why now) when away from my pc. And it was pretty much needed only coz I had no access to my PC at the time.

Anyone heard of SmartExplorer? Apparently it can beam files etc. and is much beter than AllExplorer. There are some screenshots on the forum... Soz, no link.

Ohh bugger, didnt notice the massive 'coming soon' heading. What an arse! In an effort to redeam myself from this rare (honest!) bout of total idiocy I tried having a look for the SmartExplorer prog that Madukranian mentioned...no luck yet....

Right, after having a butchers around, it would appear that SmartExplorer is'nt out yet either. Can any1 confirm this? Most of the info I found about it was on smartphony.

I havent tried it yet, but there is a link from msmobiles to SmartExplorer:

http://www.griffinnet.co.uk/spvapp.htm

this link also contains SPV Task Manager for terminating applications (V. useful for multiple window problem in PIE)

I have not tried these applications yet, but will give them a go tonight and report back.

Both Task Manager and SmartExplorer work well. SmartExplorer is handier than AllExplorer. I dislike intensely that thing where you have to switch from folder view to file view...

Oh, and I've tried it, you CAN add an underscore to a file name with SmartExplorer. The # key menu for special characters works fine.

That's why I didn't use inplace edit in SmartExplorer. The tree or list view is not able to stay in edit mode after displaying a dialog.

As we are talking about SmartExplorer, here is some news about the development:

- I have fixed the shortcut icon so that the small arrow is displayed correctly.

- I have finished the receiving by infrared function.

- The function to send by infrared is working, but I still need to add the progress dialog.

I expect to have a new version available at the end of the week.
