Guest Ja99iE Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 At the risk of sounding like someone who's stolen a phone and has malicious intentions, how do I go about COMPLETELY removing Wavesecure? I recently ported my number from my old network, it took longer than expected since I wasn't allowed to port from T-Mobile to T-Mobile Business so I had to do it via another network, I became inpatient and installed Wavesecure on my temporary number instead of waiting (I've had the phone since mid-November). I've tried this adb command: adb remount adb shell rm /system/app/com.wsandroid.apk And I've tried deleting the "/data/data/com.wsandroid" folder with Root Explorer, but when I reinstall Wavesecure, it's still remembering my previous settings. Anything else I can do? "The application cannot be uninstalled by a thief and we we have actively worked with Wavesecure to ensure that your settings will survive a hard reset!" Will a wipe even clear the settings? Thanks, Jason
Guest shenshang Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 wavesecure fetches the settings according to your IMEI number, so any wipes will not be able to get you new settings. You will have to contact them.

Even if a thief wipes the phone (removing the data directory), and changes the SIM (new number), WS will still lock the phone, as new settings will be sent to it using the IMEI as a 'reference'. They mention on their site that you can close your account by contacting them, and that in future it should be possible via the web interface. Out of interest, why did you need it totally removed? You can add another SIM to the list of 'approved numbers'. Either way, be sure to re-register before end of the month if you want the free lifetime subscription, else it'll be €15 approx. per year (although it's easily worth that).

It's the same SIM Card, just the phone number attached to the SIM Card has changed (I ported my old number in from another network via a PAC code). Wavesecure hasn't locked me out or anything, and it still lets me access the app, but the option "Add SIM to safe SIM list" is still greyed out, since it's the same default SIM card I registered with, and since my account is registered with my old (now inactive) number, I very much doubt the remote functions like locking the phone, backing up/wiping data will work anymore, since as far as I know they use commands sent by SMS to your registered number. Either way, be sure to re-register before end of the month if you want the free lifetime subscription, else it'll be €15 approx. per year (although it's easily worth that). Yes, that's why I'm wanting to get it done asap.

I don't think that changes during a port, which would explain why the SIM is not recognised as changed. BUT, try logging into the WS site and locking phone. I believe it uses the 'currently inserted SIM's number' to send the SMS to, so that if a thief changes it, the messages go to their inserted SIM, causing lock and track events to be received. So there may not be an issue here... Your new number should appear under 'Track', and any lock/locate/backup etc. events should be sent to the new number. HTH
Guest Ja99iE Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 My new number didn't appear in the Track section, it hasn't picked up on any activity with my phone since I uninstalled the software on the 19th January when I gave my PAC code to T-Mobile. I was reluctant to click "Lock" in case my number situation gave me problems unlocking the phone, but I tried a remote backup and that didn't work so locking wouldn't work either. I did ask a Wavesecure staff member on another forum a while back and they said I would be able to contact them to update my account, I've mailed them now, I was just curious if there was an easier way such as deleting the settings and reinstalling.

I guess that having the same imsi number confused it into seeing the 'new' number as being the old one. I'm sure you'll get it fixed, cos the dev is always really good at responding to feedback and suggestions.

Unless you are using one of pauls older MCR roms with it still built in, of course... or just a nandroid restore back to an earlier time when you had not installed wavesecure. that's what i did. I did a nandroid backup before i installed, so when it wouldn't go, i just restored the previous backup from before i had installed it. job done.

The issue the OP had was that they actually wanted to use WS but with the same SIM and new number. As the settings are stored remotely on the WS server, they were being re-downloaded to the phone next time it was installed. So you're idea is spot on (or you could just 'adb remount, rm com.wsandroid.apk'), but that wouldn't help with the server-side issue.
