Guest Kev_B Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi I have had the B7610 for about two weeks now and must be soft resetting it at least 5 times a day. What is worse is that I only realise it isn't working when people email me to tell me my phone isn't working or if I try to use it and realise it has frozen completely. Other times I am using it and it just freezes and fails to respond to any controls, leaving me having to remove the battery and restart. I use this for work and this is becoming increasingly unusable. Other than maybe Opera 10, I am not running any programmes other than Active Sync which is permenantly on. The phone is on Samsung WM6.5 details as follws: pda:B7610NXXIK2 csc:B7610NXEUIK2 Phone:B7610XXIK1 Is this normal behaviour for this device or is there likley a fault and I should consider returning to Samsung? Have tried a hard reset and it doesn't seem any better. Thanks for any advice. KB
Guest SuperLOL Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I had also some problems after updating but after a Hard Reset it was ok. To Hard Rest Dail this number: *2767*3855#
Guest barki82 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Yes first of all try the hard reset, but don't forget to backup data before doing it (contacts, sms, etc....). I don't know if you installed Samsung Pro SDK 2.1, its responsible for the phone freezing when the device locks. Edited January 28, 2010 by barki82

I don't know if you installed Samsung Pro SDK 2.1, its responsible for the phone freezing when the device locks. Don't even know what Samsung Pro SDK 2.1 is. Have only had the device a couple of weeks and hardly installed much at all (SKy+, Opera and Facebook). Will try the hard reset again and see what happens. Luckily all contacts etc. are linked to my exchange server so no need to wrry about backups.
Guest SuperLOL Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Samsung has really messed up the phone with all this junk programs. You should really read this topic if you want a better Phone: http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-verizo...d-programs-faq/ The only thing i miss is a Clean ROM for this Phone :) Edited January 28, 2010 by SuperLOL
Guest account2002 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I had similiar problem when I installed Opera 10 beta 2. After removing Opera everything returned to normal. So maybe Opera 10 is a cause.
Guest Kev_B Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Now I keep getting "A problem has occurre with Shell32.exe" and if I try and do anything, ll I get is no program memory. I am not running anything now have I installed anything other than basic Exchange Syncing. Is this a hardware problem and should I go back to Samsung?
Guest SuperLOL Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Try not running the Exchange Syncing for 2 days and see how the Phone works. Edited January 29, 2010 by SuperLOL
Guest Kev_B Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Try not running the Exchange Syncing for 2 days and see how the Phone works. Will try that, only problem is my sole reason for getting Windos Mobile is for Exchange Sync with my work email and calendar so if that doesn't work the phone is useless to me.
Guest b7610_fan Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) I'm using Exchange all the time. lot's of mail (all mail past month ) + attachments < 500KB. no lag or problems at all. (I do set the option to store the attachments on storage card) try hard reset. get rid of the samsung skins as much as possible. And configure exchange again. (from phone, not connected to activesync ). When everything is configured, connect with activesync and you mail will be downloaded ( or connect with wifi ) everything sould work fine. Guest Kev_B Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Used it all weekend with Sync turned off and no problems at all. Turned on Sync this morning and within a couple of hours it had crashed. Is this likley to be a hardware or software issue? Should I go back to Samsung or can I reinstall Active Sync in some way?
Guest b7610_fan Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 what exaclty crashes? the application tmail ? or something else? or really the whole phone who doesn't react / hang.
Guest .:stn:. Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 if you're affraid of flashing, try connecting it to PC using Samsung KIES and checking fo updates there. It' an easier way to upgrade, of course if there is a new FW release.
Guest Kev_B Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) It just freezes completely. Usually when it is locked (Corporate policy automatically locks after a time period), I press the lock button to unlock and it shows mixed graphics and doesn't respond, not even the power key so have to remove the battery and reset. Sometimes I get the shell32.exe memory error but not always. Often the only way I know is someone telling me that they can't get hold of me as the phone doesn't ring. It is official Samsung wm6.5, never been flashed, so what would I flash it with? Edited February 1, 2010 by Kev_B
Guest wingnut999 Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 I think it sounds more like a hardware issue I have sim free wm6.5 and also do exchange sync with corporate policy etc etc and have no problems at all it has only frozen about twice in the last 6 weeks
Guest me00016 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Have you changed the local area setting? If it is different than your selected language the phone behaves as you describe. I tried myself to change the local area (settings-advanced settings tab-system-local settings-area tab) to UK and I used italian language. Then it started to freeze all the time. Switched it back to Italy, and the problem solved!

Is there any point in trying one of the other ROM's which have been posted? Would this invalidate my warranty? If so am I bets just going back to Samsung? It's really annoying as I like the phone but cannot rely on it as a business device.

Have just had the phone back from Samsung who have reflashed it - seems to be working better now so will wait and see!
Guest ttrevelian Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Have just had the phone back from Samsung who have reflashed it - seems to be working better now so will wait and see! I believe your problems are all gone now. I had the same problem about a week ago. Since i noticed that it froze after going to the lock screen I disabled this but whenever I pressed he lock button the device turned off It was solved by re flashing the phone (with the same rom that presented the problem) so I believe it is not a hardware issue
Guest ttrevelian Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 In general B7610 this is the first WM device I've had that I dont have to soft reset daily. I have tried WM 6.1 6.5 and 6.5.3 roms all available on this forum and had no problem with any of them

Since i noticed that it froze after going to the lock screen I disabled this but whenever I pressed he lock button the device turned off I've had the exact same problem. thanks to hints from .:stn:. we determined, that the combination of a wm 6.1 rom and the samsung sdk 2.1 was responsible. uninstalled the sdk and bam, everything fine again. do NOT install sdk 2.1 when using a 6.1 rom & everything should be fine.

Not installed anything. This is straight from being reflashed by Samsung. Only running Exchange sync.
