Guest vache Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Now we just need the kernel source to begin real cooking :)
Guest behnaam Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Now we just need the kernel source to begin real cooking :) Actually as far as for getting aosp to work on Liquid kernel sources wont do much, but for enhacements on kernel such as squashfs, ramzswap, compcache its good, but I dont understand why people thinks that the kernel will help us in anyway of getting elsewhere than modifing stock liquid builds. On topic: Why is this good news? Its not like xda is going to make anything for u, its just another forum thats all. I would say that this board is alot better than xda when it comes to keep stuff clean and neat... just my 2 cents
Guest vache Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 For stock ROMs ok, but which way to use to make a 2.0 or 2.1 ROM ?
Guest liquid_it Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Actually as far as for getting aosp to work on Liquid kernel sources wont do much, but for enhacements on kernel such as squashfs, ramzswap, compcache its good, but I dont understand why people thinks that the kernel will help us in anyway of getting elsewhere than modifing stock liquid builds. I think modding stock roms is just the first step: not everyone wants a completely modded rom, but just some features added. To me one of themost annoying things is I can't connect to ipsec vpn because of lack of a tun module.. Sources will help. Why is this good news? Its not like xda is going to make anything for u, its just another forum thats all. I would say that this board is alot better than xda when it comes to keep stuff clean and neat... Yeah, you're right, being in xda fourms doesn't mean nothing without good devs. By the way, if a htc-based dev forum lets Liquid in, to me it looks like there are some devs interested in hacking our device, isn't it?
Guest goa200 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Yeah, you're right, being in xda fourms doesn't mean nothing without good devs. By the way, if a htc-based dev forum lets Liquid in, to me it looks like there are some devs interested in hacking our device, isn't it? Not really, it just means enough people raised their voice saying they want an acer liquid forum. and as Behnaam also said this doesnt mean anything really.
Guest ScR3am3r Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Yeah, you're right, being in xda fourms doesn't mean nothing without good devs. By the way, if a htc-based dev forum lets Liquid in, to me it looks like there are some devs interested in hacking our device, isn't it? I think they are fed up reading posts or threads from people which are always asking "can you add this phone, can you add that phone" etc. So the liquid will get a small subforum and everybody is happy. But the people who are asking this, most of them are no devs. So i dont think that this will change anything..... When some of the xda devs are interested in hacking the liquid they wont need a forum on xda for this.
Guest Seth Cold Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 i think the good news is xda has many developers who wont get another device because they love that community... a forum there might make the user/dev base bigger and give the device a lil bit of more interest to the general public i know many people who wont buy a device if its not xda supported

Another POV: 1) Acer Liquid is cheap (many developers can buy it easy... ) 2) there is many users (=> donations) ..... why a new forum isn't a good choice for XDA? :) that's my 2 cents ... obviously for the users 2 forum is better than one B) Edited January 28, 2010 by syncro
Guest behnaam Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 i think the good news is xda has many developers who wont get another device because they love that community... a forum there might make the user/dev base bigger and give the device a lil bit of more interest to the general public i know many people who wont buy a device if its not xda supported Sure but one thing that we have to have in mind is that XDA initially was made for HTC based devices, if u look into e.g. Xperia X1 section at xda, they havnt made as much progress as other forums done, as far as development goes, xda is great for HTC devices since they have a big member group, but I dont think it will help us much.
Guest Juan_OX Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 is a good news, yes, but HERE have really good developers too. Please don´t menospreciate them, because thanks to all we have th best liquids in the world. so, i wish to animate them to work in A1 till have a rounded phone. Thanks again to all that make this possible.
Guest ScR3am3r Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 is a good news, yes, but HERE have really good developers too thats for sure!!!
Guest Andy__P Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Actually as far as for getting aosp to work on Liquid kernel sources wont do much, but for enhacements on kernel such as squashfs, ramzswap, compcache its good, but I dont understand why people thinks that the kernel will help us in anyway of getting elsewhere than modifing stock liquid builds. I would say that this board is alot better than xda when it comes to keep stuff clean and neat... just my 2 cents It's good news because as said, xda has a fairly big user/dev base. And although i'm new to the whole android stuff i still noticed that many of the best mods, apps originated in the xda forums. Don't get me wrong, you guys here are fantastic! But still the more forums supporting liquid, the more people will be interested in it (hopefully :) ) So keep up the awesome work and maybe we'll see something from xda too.
Guest Verb Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Actually as far as for getting aosp to work on Liquid kernel sources wont do much I was under the impression that if we had the kernel source, that would mean that we also get the drivers thus enabling us to make custom versions of newer releases like 2.0 and 2.1. If this is not correct, could you please explain how it all fits together :)

Guest three_pineapples Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 yes we do...its interesting that the day it is released behnaam says that the kernel source won't help getting 2.0 or 2.1 working on the liquid (at least i think that's what he said)... I really don't understand anymore. If the kernel source isn't going to help get 2.1 running on the liquid, what is missing from AOSP to get it running? Ohwell, i'm sure the kernel source will be useful for something! And hopefully having a forum on XDA will get the liquid more exposure :)
Guest chingy1788 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 the kernel sourece will provide drivers however those drivers are made for Android 1.6 and not 2.x So android 2.x will not run with the android 1.6 drivers or rather, things will not work properly take the htc g1 for example it has 2.1 roms but there are still things not working properly or not working at all (eg 3d acceleration) and the camera they recentlu got working through some hacking or what ever the release of this kernel source will allow improved android 1.6 roms in terms of speed and features as well as overclocking to 1GHz Android 2.1... we will have to wait till acer releases android 2.1 and eventually the source to get proper android 2.1 roms but who knows, the 1.6 drivers might just happen to work perfectly on 2.1
Guest three_pineapples Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 hmm, cool. That makes sense! Anyway, in another thread someone got confirmation from Acer that 2.1 would be out for the liquid mid march :) So not long to wait!
Guest lucian785 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 It's friday and i can't see any thread on XDA!
