Screen not working after replacing digitizer

I've been following the digitizer replacement thread for a while and final decided to go ahead with it since my touch screen has become practically useless. It was actually a pretty simple process and I didn't encounter any problems. However now the screen is not working. I am not sure what went wrong, however now when I turn the phone on I get half a blank screen and the other half has a bunch of vertical colored lines. Eventually everything fades to almost completely dark if I leave it on. went back and reseated all the connections a bunch of times but without any luck.

I am think that somehow the LCD got damaged but before I go and get a replacement screen or get a new phone I wanted to see if anyone had any other thoughts as to what could be the problem. As I said, during the dis-assembly and installation I really did not have any problems at all and the LCD display was working perfectly fine beforehand. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

BTW, this is for a i910. Sorry for posting a new thread on this but I thought maybe someone might have some insight who is not monitoring the other thread.

Well, I guess no one has any thoughts about my issue, but I discovered something I found interesting. I installed MyMobiler and found that other than the screen not working, everything else is working perfectly (...."other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play, lol). I am really bummed too because playing around with it on my computer screen am am able to click on stuff more accurately that I ever remember it being when the screen was working!

Does anyone know how sensitive the lcd screens are? I was very careful when I took it apart and I don't recall ever getting to a spot where it seemed possible that I could break anything (though obviously I did). Just wondering if it is worth going through the cost and expense of replacing the lcd screen. Anyone ever done it before?

I would re-open it and check the cable connectors again. all of them.

if you look at the video

- there is one flat cable on 2:48min. Unplug it and check with a magnifier if there are traces of the needles on wrong places..if it wasn't put 100% correctly might see traces between the wires or short circuits.

The next two are kind of tricky - I also almost placed the connector parts incorrectly and they are really small and gentle. check also for traces of incorrect closure.

- there is also a cable, which connectors you have to press & kind of clip... check the video @2:58min

-check also the connector @3:35min

The rest is luck...hope you won't need to send it for repair

Thanks for the feedback. I've taken it apart and put it back together so many times no I can practically do it blindfolded. I even tried putting the old digitizer back on but no luck. The ribbon connector at the 2:48 mark of the video you posted is the connector for the LCD. I've tried finagling with this even while the phone is on but it doesn't seem to make a difference one way or the other. If it makes contact the screen lights up and shows what I described above or it is off. I didn't notice any degrees of improvement or worsening if I played around with it. I suspect that the lcd or the ribbon somehow got damaged, though I am not sure how.

I found a couple of places that sell replacement LCDs but I don't think it is worth it. They are around $80 and I can get a new Omnia from VZW if I sign a 1 year contract or for $9 if I sign on for 2. I could also move to a new phone but the only thing I am interested right now is Android, however I don't like the Droid and I would much prefer it if Eris were running 2.1 already. VZW said they would be offering an upgrade but with they who knows when that will happen. I think a year or so from now Android will start to come into its own. In the meanwhile I don't really feel like having to buy all new accessories in addition to the cost of a new phone.

I've had the exact same issue. I was excited about trying out the new digitizer after all the posts raving about it. I was very careful taking my i910 all apart, replacing the digitizer and then reassembling the phone. When I started it back up the lcd was black with a slight backlighting. Nothing visible on it at all. I took it all apart, checked the connections and reassembled, still no change. I can hear the phone functions working and it receives calls and mymobiler shows it working but the LCD is black. At one point, after a soft reset, the screen turned rainbow colors and then later it faded to black around the edge of the screen while staying dimly rainbow in the center.

I can't see any damage, I was very careful, and I've checked the cable connections several times and put the old digitizer back in, still no improvement. The last several times I've tried, mymobiler is no longer working and the phone won't shut down with the top button. I wonder if I've broken the LCD or shorted the printed circuit board somehow. Not sure if it's worth buying a LCD replacement or just getting a new phone. It's a real shame too, because I finally had the phone set up about right.

Any ideas or help would bring good karma. Thanks.

Update: Problem solved... I found out that I wasn't inserting the LCD wiring harness correctly. There is a long thin black lever on the plug that must be carefully raised before inserting the LCD wiring harness into the socket. Then the lever needs to be lowered to make the connection. Without that the LCD would not work. This step wasn't clear in the disassembly tutorial that I followed. Hope this helps someone else out there.

This service manual helped me figure it out with the detailed pictures of the disassembly and assembly of an i900. Mine is an i910 but the procedure is similar. Link
