I'm seriously thinking to root my just arrived Nexus One, it seems clear the advantages... you have to full control of the device in that way, but i read that you loose the warranty... and maybe there are also some others risks... as always...

The question after i root it... can i come back (unrooting it)?

Thank you

You can unroot your device but what you want is to lock the bootloader again and that's (still) impossible

I would like to understand if it is possible come back so that it is impossible to view that the device has been rooted.

Yet, no. It is not possible. Hence the big google warning before unlocking SPL.

To be clear, it is not ROOTING that voids your warranty, it is Unlocking the Bootloader in order to root.

It is possible to root and unroot as often as you like, but once you unlock the Bootloader in order to root the device, that is not reversible and leaves an unlock symbol on your first screen (Which also can't be removed).

Edit Also YES it is possible to reverse rooting so that you cannot tell it has been rooted. You can put your device back to completly stock ROM and recovery etc. But the bootloader will still show Unlocked.

By 'the bootloader will still show unlocked', do you mean it will still show the unlock symbol on the first screen?

Because that'll be pretty obvious to any HTC tech who gets one in under warranty, i.e. they don't even have to remember to run some tool to check whether it's been unlocked :-(

That's the boot splash screen, and it will still show a padlock, although I see someone saying over on XDA they had managed to change it to a closed padlock. The bootloader screen is different, you get to it with a key combination at power up time, it actually states unlocked in text at the top of the screen and no one has claimed to be able to change that as far as I know.

Ugg. The Bootloder screen caused me a problem. My flash LED has stopped working and I need to send the sexy Nexus back under warranty but ... well you all know it ... my warranty is void because of the bootloader.

Now I have a pretty unique Nexus One. It has a little LED on the front that does absolutely nothing - ever.

Someone is seeking for a solution to help bods like me, right ?

Prem

P.S. Don't panic folks. The LED issue is just one of those snaffu things that happen..... :-(

I read over at XDA that a fellow had got HTC to honor his warranty even though he unlocked his boot loader. Now you may be able to talk them into fixing your LED, he says if you get the right rep you may be able to talk them into it. So you could call them and be honest and see what they say.
