Guest Daniel Williamson Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Just wondering if any one could tell me what ext partition is all about and if it speeds up the pulse and lastly how you do it ? I have seen an icon for it on the recovery image but not dared to press it yet ;) Thanks Dan
Guest HunteronX Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) An ext partition created on an sdcard is used for Apps2SD, which just allows you to install more apps than you would with the internal memory, if it is limited like with the pulse. If you want to use Apps2SD, then backup your sdcard files onto your computer, and then format the card, using the recovery image, don't create a swap partition on the card, unless you don't want to use Apps2SD. When you're done connect your phone to your pc, and copy the files back to the FAT/FAT32 partition. It doesn't speed up the phone - unfortunately sd card speeds are slower than the internal memory/ram speeds, so apps will open a bit more slowly. It becomes less noticable with class 4 or class 6 cards (class 6 is the fastest). But, i'm using a class 2 card, and i don't have any problems. P.S. Convert the ext2 partition to ext3 later if you wish to, to have less installation unsuccessful errors, when installing apps/games. Ext4 causes problems with MCR 1.7. If you already knew about any of this, sorry for being patronising, but I hope this helps! ;) Edited February 2, 2010 by HunteronX

Guest bograma Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I did a partition (2 ext) using the Quick Boot and moved all my apps on the SD and now the card became unreadable. I will format but I'll loose the apps (that's OK they're only free apps) and then should I try again to partition from the same app or...? And also...I really, really need to move the apps onto SD. What should I use? Thanks,

All you have to do is format your ext 2 partition again, and put it into your phone. When you first boot your phone up, it may take a while, but this only happens once. (i'm not sure about all of the details of this...) When you begin to install apps again, they will be automatically installed to your sd card's ext partition. You won't see the extra space on settings, but you'll know if its working, because your phone's internal memory will continue to stay around the same amount of space free. Hope this helps! ;) Edited February 7, 2010 by HunteronX
Guest dino_mk Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Another question about ext partition. What app should I use to explore it, or to view how much space is used (or free) on my extended partition?

I just did that, everything went smoothly, did the partition, I now am able to see the remaining free space but...when I try to install an app it says "operation unsuccessful, insufficient storage available." What gives?:S
