Guest Triall) Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Hi dudes! ;) Great forum You've got here... may be the most comprehensive information in the web for the SPV. So, if already is discussed such a matter, please link it to me. If not, please advise me how to deal with next situation: I've got SPV. In our company there is MS Mobile Information Server. So I would like to connect the SPV through the MIServer to the MS Exchange server, where is my e-mail. The sense is when I'm out of the office and I have good internet connection to perform VPN to the mail server and to synchronize my e-mail with the SPV Inbox, Calendar and etc Folders. Till that moment the only synchronization that certainly works :? is between the SPV and my Desktop Outlook through USB cable. 10x in advance to all who will share their opinion by this matter...
Guest daveng Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Hello, We have the same configuration but I didn't find the time to try ActiveSync from the network. A few thoughts though : - you need an SSL certificate on the MIS box, since ActiveSync only works through SSL. It has to be an official certificate. There is a patch for PocketPCs so they don't require an official certificate, but I don't think there is a similar patch for the SPV. - I could not make the VPN work from the SPV... I guess the best way to go (at least, to make ActiveSync in the first place), is to allow ActiveSync traffic through your firewall (this is what I will try when I find some time). This way you don't need the VPN anymore, and the traffic is secured through SSL. If someone manage to make this work, I'm interrested. If I can make it work, I'll let you know how I managed it (but I will need an SSL certificate before, which means spending $150 at least, just to see if it works)...
Guest Triall) Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Here is what I've come to(may be nothing)... May my knowledge is not enough to resolve such a task... I fight a lot with the problem, but for my regret unsuccessfully.... I go through a lot of articles... I tried to connect the SPV in same way, as PocketPC: http://www.mobile-and-wireless.com/Article...ArticleID=24875 Here are the points, where I suppose I'm fallin: 1. I can not establish connection between the SPV and the MIServer 2. I'm not sure that the MIServer comunicates correctly with the Exchange I will try to explain the company topology: SPV -> ISA (firewall) -> MIServer -> Exchange May be I should try to avoid the ISA server and to connect directly to the MIServer... When I tried to connect the SPV to the MIServer I set profile of the phone. When I try to connect with the SPV through the VPN connection I receive errors all the time. Then I tried to set carrier between the MIServer and Exchange I set carrier to GSM network. So here comes the interesting part :-( I do not know how to test the carrier settings... If someone can help with advise I will highly appreciate it....
Guest Soyale Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 One thing to remember is that you cannot make a VPN connection over Orange GPRS. Either your MMIS box should be accessible from the outside world or use a dialup connection and create a VPN. HTH jp
Guest pupton Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Not really a permanent measure but you could connect to your exchange server using Imap4. This will give you access to your email. Nowhere as good as a full sync up but its better than nothing...
Guest [email protected] Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 hi, could try using Orange CSD (HSCSD) instead of GPRS. This supports VPN access and will let you connect at about 28 kbps - or so I'm told by Orange. Still need the certificate though :) cheers
