Guest tchall Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) Hi I have rooted my phone Nexus one and changed the boot loader and system images as directed above for rooted phones. I now have decided that I cant keep doing this every time Google has an update How do I put it back to the way it was so that it is an unmodified Google Nexus one. and so that it will receive the normal Google updates from within the phone and so that it will take the original Google update.zip file without having to used the modified one? Many thanks Tom Edited February 7, 2010 by tchall
Guest sthoeft Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Just install a stock ROM and you are unrooted and will get all OTA updates. Your Guaranty is still void because you unlocked the bootloader!
Guest Michael Spencer Jr. Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I think what he's asking is: what's the procedure for that? Do you wipe first? What is wiping, and can you accidentally delete too much?

Your Guaranty is still void because you unlocked the bootloader! thanks would like to do that yea was hoping someone could give me some instructions I have read this but the link does not work ie below link does not work 1. Download stock recovery image (for example 22607-ERD79-update-nexusone-stock-images.zip from modaco) 2. Make "fastboot update 22607-ERD79-update-nexusone-stock-images.zip" in fasboot mode (you WON"T lose your information, just get rid of root) will it then allow me to update it with the android system recovery using the stock standard google update zip on the SD card without saying .. E:No signature (208 files) E: Verification failed Edited June 7, 2011 by Paul
Guest PhonePersona Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Are you saying that the Bootloader cannot be 'relocked' once unlocked? I must investigate ;)
Guest fudaming Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 It is confirm if you do "OEM unlock", you can not lock it back.
Guest craigacgomez Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 The reason you got a signature verification failure is because you are using Amon_RA's custom recovery image. This validates only the test signatures not the official Google signatures. Technically, flashing the official ERD79 recovery image will allow you to install the ERE27 update.zip. So following the above steps, which restores you phone OS to the ERD79 stock OS, will allow yo to install the ERE27 update, since restoring to the stock will also restore the stock recovery image. But you could use the Modaco update zip from this post (http://android.modaco.com/content/google-nexus-one-nexusone-modaco-com/301729/03-feb-ere27-new-update-rooted-and-unrooted-optional-radio-optional-himem/) to update to ERE27 using Amon_RA's custom recovery! And, FYI, the above link is working!!
Guest Michael Spencer Jr. Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) I think you have that backwards. Amon_RA's custom recovery doesn't DOES verify signatures (sorry Paul) like Google's factory recovery system does. (Per Paul, it turns out Amon_RA's system verifies a test signature, and will fail to verify a Google-release signature. Pity it doesn't try to verify both, first one then the other.) If you think about it: if Google's recovery system allowed you to flash any update.zip you wanted, you wouldn't need to unlock your bootloader. You could put whatever update.zip you wanted on your SD card and flash it without unlocking or voiding any warranties. Amon_RA's custom recovery might check for corruption (confirming a hash) but doesn't bother confirming the update zip file was signed by any authorized publishers (using public key crypto). It'll let you install any update zip you want. Edited February 10, 2010 by Michael Spencer Jr.
Guest Paul Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Well, that's almost right Michael, it does check a signature, but test-keys rather than release-keys. P

P ok so after a bit of a fuss I got it to Download thanks for that so then I unzipped it and ran fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot flash recovery recovery.img fastboot flash system system.img fastboot erase cache fastboot erase userdata but there were some other images ie hboot_8x50_0.33.0012_091210.nb0 microp_Passion_Passion#C_LED_V0B15_88V_20091203.img Radio_1202_2_20091214_Signed_PASSION.img spcustom.img splash1.img userdata.img what do i do with these and if I have to flash them to get back to Google default what command do i type in ? Thanks in advance Tom

Thanks in advance Tom I don't think you need the other stuff. I think (open to correction) they are bits of the files you have already installed that have been seperated out to be used on their own eg, the splash1.img is contained in the boot.img I think. Pretty sure those files you flashed are the ones I used to get my nexus as close to stock as possible before sending it in for warranty. The radio image is stock, but has been updated within the latest update, so no point flashing that as it will downgrade your radio. Dayz xx
Guest Michael Spencer Jr. Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 This is related so I figure I should ask it here: I've been installing and replacing various custom system images, installing and uninstalling lots of apps, and so forth. I fear my system has old leftover bits it doesn't really need. I want to closely inspect a clean system, unsullied by ANY extra marketplace applications, but with Google account sync intact. What's the best way to accomplish that? My best guess is: * I have no paid applications yet, so I will go into Marketplace and uninstall everything without exception. * use the system settings -> privacy -> Factory data reset, and reset the phone. * exit the setup wizard and power completely down, and reboot into Amon_RA's recovery * apply a kitchen update zip from this site. probably latest MCR. * Start up and complete initial setup like with a new phone Right? Or is there a more pure way, perhaps involving "fastboot erase" commands? Unlike the above posters I want to keep Amon_RA's recovery and end up with a rooted phone with wired and wireless tethering. Thanks again for your help.
