Guest thehitmen Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Hi guys, I did have an iphone 3G and network unlocked and jailbroken which i learnt and did myself. This android "rooting" is driving me crazy, i have looked everywhere for a guide and how to root the t mobile pulse but not had any luck. Would anyone here be kind enough to do me a step by step guide in what i need to do to "root" my pulse (what are the advantages) does it speed your phone up? I have seen some guides on here on with this thing called "superboot" but i have no idea what that is? All the best and cheers
Guest HunteronX Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Rooting gives you (I think it's su) permissions to do all sorts of things, like change the clock speed of your processor, edit system files etc. Superboot allows you to root your phone without installing a custom rom, but I advise you to install one, because that should speed up your phone. All you really have to do to root your phone is follow the instructions here: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...t-a-custom-rom/ Or for a recovery image, which helps you to fix up your phone in case something goes wrong, go here (you can make complete backups of your phone, and restore them from here, as well as flash roms, and other various things): http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...on-your-device/ Once your phone's in bootloader mode, connect it to your pc before running the bat file. Then go here, if you want to install a custom rom - these are automatically rooted, and have Apps2SD, which allows you to install apps to the sd card. (If you want instructions for Apps2SD, just ask.)) Vanilla-style (like default android) - http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-vanilla-style/ T-mobile style - http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...t-mobile-style/ p.s. there is now a recovery key combination, once you've installed a custom rom, which is POWER, MENU, END KEY(RED), all held when the phone is turned on. Hope this helps you understand now. ;) Edited February 9, 2010 by HunteronX

Guest bounty123 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 The basics of it: in linux systems only the root user has access to many system functions, files, settings. Rooting the phone means to be able to run programs with superuser (=root) rights. Rooting alone does not change anything, like make it faster etc., it just gives you the possibility to access things which are normally not available to a normal user. But you also can screw up many things which are not screwable for a normal user ;)
Guest David Horvath Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 As a complement, i would advice you not to root your phone, until you really understand the basics of this process. It makes no sense to do it without any reason. In WinXP this screwed up almost everything. Everybody had Professional and admin rights. Thats why there were so many viruses.
Guest thehitmen Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Thanks, well explained and documented thanks ;) The downloads to the superbooter are now dead? Edited June 7, 2011 by Paul
Guest HunteronX Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Here's a 1.5 superboot for you. ;)1.5_pulse_superboot.zip
Guest Bakes Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Rooting is the Android equivalent of Jailbreaking. Apple phones don't let you leave your home directory, Android phones don't let you see much or change much outside of your home directory. If you want to root, I'd suggest that you try to backup most of your stuff and then install one of the Modaco Custom Roms. They're much faster and conserve battery life nicely.
Guest Josh04 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I wrote a FAQ a while ago which might be of interest to you: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-android-pulse/
