When HTC finally release the 2.1 update... it's probably not a good idea to install it!

Wait for a repacked version, the 2.1 update will likely ship with a perfected SPL and once you've flashed it, there may be no way back...

I thought this.. Cheers for confirming Paul!

*EDIT*

I just noticed that the carrier specific roms have been pulled from the HTC support site. 2.1 on the way??

Does this information suggest that you have a copy of the 2.1 ROM Paul?

Unfortunately not! ;)

Aww :D I was hoping this was being mentioned in anticipation of a known event coming 'real soon'.

Unfortunately not...

'Soon' can be stretched. When 'soon' is used, it might even come in a year or so. Never trust devs using 'soon' ;)

It's ok... it'll take Paul about 23 minutes to repack it for us... lol

I would hold out for a 'negative' time lol. Paul will have it before general release, I reckon, hence giving him ample time to release a repack update.zip without SPL before official release...

Unless HTC keep it tight, in which case I reckon 23mins might even be a bit long ;) I've stripped out a ROM in about 15, but it was a 1.5 one and I knew what to expect and had created scripts beforehand. This one could be like a voyage of discovery. We just need to be sure it can be rooted before we all go flashing it!

Well whenever it gets released, it's *way* overdue.

I feel badly done over by HTC. Flagship model? Bah, i've been unable to install lots of 1.6 and above apps for so long now.

All the missing 1.6 and straight to 2.1 rubbish has turned into a sour joke.

Sorry for rant....

Well I for one don't have any intention of installing the official HTC 2.1 update. Much rather wait for Paul's improvements via a MCR release. ;)

Btw. @ Paul: What do you think about Dalvik Turbo? Any chance to see that in MCR also if HTC will not give us any newer versions of Android after the 2.1 update?

This thread makes me happy. Paul, you're amazing.

When they release 2.1 with Sense UI do you think the google maps navigation will be working for the UK, or is that down to google and map licensing...

would be nice to have the "fixed" version of maps included in the 2.1 MCR Rom when Paul builds it.

Paul - from past experience with HTC Roms, are you likely to get a leaked version, that much earlier than the official one is released - could it be weeks before or days?

Hi Paul,

What are the chances of the kernel that google have 'forked' being released as source code once 2.1 has been released to the wild? They have to release the source code as they have modified the kernel under GPL...but is there a time limit? Do HTC have the same legal requirement or are the drivers binary only?

Carl.

I have often thought that the delays were to allow HTC and Google to push out Hero 2.1 with Worldwide Navigation (or at least more than just USA...).

After all, the Hero was one of the highest selling phones so when this gets 2.1 it's going to massively increase the amount of handsets running Eclair. Navigation is well known to be part of Eclair, so maybe HTC are delaying to avoid any pressure on support, or disappointment if it didn't have Nav?
