Is it possible to remove MoDaco Rom 3.1 from my Hero?

Hello,

I just bought a used HTC Hero wich has the MoDaCo Rom 3.1 installed. The phone is working just fine, but I really would like to have it restored to its original state. I'm a newbie on the techniques of Android and don't want my Hero to be turned into a vegative state ;)

I do want to get my hands on the HTC update to Android 2.1 next month, so which steps do a have to make to get it original again?

I also have a HTC Magic from Vodafone, I want to experiment a bit with this phone and install a custom Rom, but again, I don't know how or where to begin!

Thanks in advance for your help, guys! :D

Hi!

Just run the original RUU over it! :( everything will be restored ( Android itself, radio, bootloader etc! )

For the magic, there is a special sub-forum for that device, I guess there will be a lot of information! :D

And for the RUU, go for 2.73.405.5 if you don't upgrade to 2.1 you still can downgrade and root it again (with flashrec) ;)

Sorry, I'm not familiar with all the technical stuff :D I don't even know what a RUU is (and yes, I'm ashamed of it too :D )

I will read all there is to know about installing a custom rom on my Magic!

If you just want to flash the 2.1 update when it will come out, wait and install it over your MoDaCo powered hero, why going back now? ;)

Take some time out and read about the custom ROMS and what is available. If you do try to go back to HTC ROM and install the wrong Kernel you may not be able to experiment in the future. Most reports place MCR's ROMS head and shoulders above stock, so as stated above. Hold fire for a little while. :D

It should be pointed out that if you run the official RUU updates on your phone, especially the upcoming 2.1, you may lose the ability to root it in the future as HTC could well "perfect" the SPL and prevent rooting...

I think Paul posted something about this a couple of days as well.

Think carefully before you go down that route is all i would advise...it might be a one-way street ;)

Cheers,

Smiffy.

I would wait til someone makes an update.zip out of the 2.1 ruu and just flash that using recovery, if you really wanna go stock.

RUU = Rom Update Utility , "the HTC rom flasher"

The official RUU links are listed here. If you grab the *.405.5 and use this rom to get back to original HTC phone software, you will always can root this ROM, other ROM's are "root-protected"! :(
