Guest cireasa Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 How do I partition the SDCard for A2SD? I don't have the option in recovery (Cyanogen). Any way I could do this? 10x.
Guest jay8ee Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 How do I partition the SDCard for A2SD? I don't have the option in recovery (Cyanogen). Any way I could do this? 10x. When I first partitioned my card for a2sd I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543985 but I really don't see the point in it any more. Even with my class 6 card, the apps run nicer of my internal storage.
Guest Lordsmiff Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I have to agree with jay8ee - unless you have run out of space, avoid apps2sd It was necessary on the G1 which had a much smaller storage area but I've got loads on mine and not noticed any space issues. That said, if you want to go ahead anyway, you can download a live image of ubuntu and use gparted on that - it's really easy to do but obviously, make sure you back anything up you will need as it will wipe it. Cheers, Smiffy.
Guest Naruc Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I used this guide http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-t...ndroid-apps2sd/
Guest cireasa Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 used jay8ee's link, and it worked. as for "why" ... i reached the limits several times. it's not speed i want, it's capacity. that's why i have the market after all ;)
Guest shenshang Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 just use amon ra's recovery image to partition your sd card..
Guest pvillasuso Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Noob question ... I got a 16GB card ( class 2 I think ) What if I make swap-size > 1024mb & ext2-size > 1024mb ( using Among RA ) am I wasting space ? would this help in anyway for performance ? which are the recomended sizes, and why ? Sorry if im asking , in such a noob level ! :D
Guest soulehs Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 swap size about 32mb is usually enough but you dont tend to see people using swap now seen as most use compcache. ext really do as much as you want but 512mb is usually enough.
Guest kendon Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 no need for swap. make it 512 to 1024 ext2, rest fat.
Guest shenshang Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 DONT USE SWAP! it will kills your sd card easily, so will EXT3 and EXT4 partitions. Stick to EXT2. I think 500MB is fine if you have like more than 150 apps, i personally use 256 and i have 100 or so apps. teknologist kernel uses compcache (which doesnt kill your sd card), and swapper will have little affect with that on.
Guest pvillasuso Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Thank You all for the info ! @shenshang Im following your advice ! Its very interesting what you said ...
Guest deeone Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) I totally agree to pvillasuso :D I'm about to flash modaco 3.1 and do a fresh start. Now i have 32Mb swap partition but i will remove that space and use it for fat...thanks again shenshang and kendon! Just for personal curiosity, is the swap partition needed by any of the roms currently available for hero? Edited February 13, 2010 by deeone
