I was browsing the net wirelessly last night and noticed my battery level went down to 33%. Approx 1 hour later after not using the phone it had gone back up to 44%!!

Seems a bit weird!

Yep I noticed that. Seems to give the reading in its current state? I think laptops do the same, the battery meter changes depending on how much cpu is being used.

I *believe* my battery life increased after applying the custom ROM. Hard to be sure though.

The battery reading is not 'how much the battery has left', it's generated from what the current voltage of the battery is. When the battery loses charge the voltage drops somewhat, so as it drops it can be roughly measured how much power is left in the battery. This means that the battery reading can go up, because it's not an absolute value.

I myself was unhappy with the battery life on this phone, until I turned off 3G. My battery life is probably 50% or so better than it was before. Also its made a difference not using it as much as I did when i first bought the phone.

To be honest if I have it on standby and use it very little I have had nearly 3 days battery time out of it, which is actually very good for a mobile.

I find 3G smashes the battery life as well - particularly if in an area where 3G reception is a little suspect. I leave the phone on 2G all the time which is fine for checking mails etc and normal background stuff. I turn 3G on as/when I need.

I don't have it installed at the moment, but I think there is one.

I'm using oneclick widget, has a variety of widgets for 3G, GPS, bluetooth, ringtone etc. Unfortunately for 3G, it isn't possible to have a widget that you just press so it takes you to the settings page where you can select the option you want so it ends up being 2 clicks but it works well enough.

Yep tis a shame that 1.5 does not allow a direct toggle for the 2G/3G option - it's two steps as mentioned above.

I use Quick Settings, which lets you change the,

Brightness with a slider

Ringer

Bluetooth

Wi-Fi

Mobile Data (3G)

GPS

It also shows how much memory is on your Phone or SD Card, and the battery life left, and a simple backlight torch..

Is there a toggle widget for background data? I find that to be a major drain on my battery but need it for Market so would be nice to have an easy to access toggle for it.

I use APNDroid to enable/disble data service from the homescreen.
