Guest Steve7 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Hi I am buying a T-Mobile G2 touch tommorow I believe that the phone has a ROM on it made by T-Mobile with all their branded stuff within it My question is : Will I be able to root this phone and install and custom rom? Despite the phone being a G2? Will installing the ROM mean I won't be able to browse the internet, make calls and texts Reason I'm asking is because the phone contract comes with unlimited texts and internet and don't wanna lose them :\ Looking forward to feedback P.S Which rom has the most features and stability and is the most fastest (no lag etc.), with all the phones features working e.g. Camera, GPS, Bluetooth etc etc Also what is a radio ? Will I need to install one Sorry for all the questions I'm new to the Hero scene :D Edited February 13, 2010 by Steve7
Guest uk786 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Q1. Yes Q2. no you can still do all that.. regarding your final question, I advise you to keep the original radio, as it is risky in changing it, and the original G2 radio gives me the best performance, for the ROM install modoco 3.1.. *also you might be interested in protection for your new handset so I'm selling this on eBay for only £1.79 Edited February 13, 2010 by uk786
Guest Xtiro Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I updated the radio on my g2 and saw a bit of an improvement in singal.
Guest SketchF Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 I updated the radio on my g2 and saw a bit of an improvement in singal. I agree, since upgrading to the latest radio version from here my G2 has been noticeably better in terms of data rate.

Guest Remington Steale Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) First things first, go to XDA-Devs and follow the gold card procedure here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683 Make sure you use the same sd card throughout all stages, and dont switch between them like I did. Took me a minute to figure that one out.... Next up install a recovery rom, full instructions can be found in the stickies section here at Modaco: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...on-your-device/ The choose your rom, personally I would say go for the Modaco one: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...online-kitchen/ as it will be most familiar and stable, some functions are not yet working in the 2.1 roms and are unlikely to do so until HTC get around to releasing the update. Above all else, READ EVERYTHING TWICE. Cant stress this enough, and BE PATIENT, if it takes a long time to boot after updating dont get impatient and pull out the battery. Wait. Bon chance. I rooted using a guide posted on theunlockr - use the text instructions, not the video. After getting the recovery image on I used a guide posted by a guy named Shahz. After the first tutorial you'll already have flashed the recovery image, so carry on from step 2. Don't use his files, you can get the most recent Modaco version, and radios from here and here (scroll down to radios)

Modaco 3.1/3.2 is the best, and if you want to try ROM's then you can try AOSP 2.1, AychTeeSee's Vanilla ROM etc. But in my opinion MCR 3.1/3.2 is the best.

Guest irishandrew Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 cheers mate -- you really have bee na graet help :D one problem though ( on aosp 2.1 atm cause of this ) when i try to install modacos rom - 3.1-3.2 - it comes up with some error ( somethiing bout dream / saphire) if you could help me solve that that would be great :D but yh once again thank you First off, coming from a 2.1 ROM you will need to do a full wipe before installing MCR (factory reset). Secondly are you sure you're trying the 3.1 ROM from the following thread?: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...online-kitchen/ 3.2 beta is only available to premium members at the moment. Cheers, Andrew.
