USB tether with PC

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. I've had my pulse for a few weeks and been very happy with it. I get circa 1900kbps from the phone when using 3g at home but a fraction of that speed when I connect it to my laptop via usb and the bundled dialup software.

Am I missing something?

What you're doing is literally connecting via dialup, your phone is pretty much being a modem for your PC. You want something like proxoid or pdanet that uses the phone's internet, rather than internet over the phone system :D

pdanet is $30 (if you don't register it you're limited to non-https traffic) but is extremely easy to set up - plug in and click 'go'. proxoid is slightly harder to set up, but if you know what you're doing and follow the instructions you'll be fine.
