Gizmodo has an article out on the liquid getting 2.1 here

And they describe it as a new model, not a software upgrade

Yes, but it's the same as our Liquid: it only has Android 2.1(it's called Liquid E: E is for Eclair, i think...), and not 1.6. No hardware change

So they have the rom for our Liquid (almost) ready :D

But in that article, they don't talk about multitouch...i'm afraid that it's not implemented...however, if they release the full source, we can have it :D

It's said that it will have the double tap to zoom.. Often this is associated to multitouch availability.. I hope

Even if same hardware it may not work on our devices.

Even simular Liquid-hardwares having problem running the same kernels (1ghz/768mhz), and there are no diffrence in the hardware between the once that can run 1ghz and the ones that cant run 1ghz.

It may even be so that this new device has another spl and/or bootinterface and that may not even be compatible with ours.

So I dont hold my breath... Want to see proof before I say this is a confirmation of that 2.1 will be released by acer to us.

Having bigger faith on disc0 and angio then acer for a 2.1-release of android to liquid.

Oh sh*t! Why is acer screwing all of us who have bought the Acer A1!? But I'm sure this has the same hardware, maybe a 1GHz CPU, but that can easily be edited in the kernel (even some of our A1 CPUs can run at 1GHz)... And if it's the same hardware, the kernel and drivers for Eclair should work on our A1s... All we need is it's ROM Dump/leak and the new bootloader/fastboot etc, and then some clever edits from our favorite devs. :D

Edit: If it indeed does have the same hardware, then there's no problem really... I just don't get why they are commercializing the eclair update. No need to add an E to the devices name just because of an update...

I'm now patiently waiting for our *ahem* official *ahem* eclair .bin from Angio. :D

the hardware is exactly the same with 0 changes. It just runs eclair out of the box.

If I remember right it has been said since the release that there will be an update for Liquid

shipped in 2009 and devices shipped in 2010 will have the update preinstalled...

//Nik

Edit: Just realized by my sig that I haven't posted in quite a while.... or I would

have noticed the extremely old sig.... cool

why are people hating on acer for not releasing 2.1? Chances are they will....and hey, you bought it with 1.6 with no guarantee of an update. Yeh it'd be nice to get one, but are acer really obliged to do so?

That is only partially right! Many people bought the acer (i'm not one of them) BECAUSE there was an official info from ACER (in France at least) saying it WILL have 2.x update by march.

Besides, if you don't tell acer (as a customer) that you are happy or unhappy about something, THEN you should not expect any miracles.

Of course it does not justify the "hate" as you called it since we all knew that we were gonna lose some/all customer support reactivity buying an Acer product this cheap while having such great HW specs. Guess it all comes dow to whether Acer wants to show up as a reliable phone company that tends to its products after release or not. I think that the different leaked ROM show that they are working on the device despite it being already released (The source code release semi fiasco of course counters that assumption)..... The new info on 2.1 gives me hope as much as the great job devs have been doing (again that 2.xxx.16 rom gave my acer a new life)
