Guest g3n3ral Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 chef's is there any chance that our i900 omnia can run winmo 7?
Guest snowsakura Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 windows 7 as the windows operating system for PC ? That would be a definite no for now.. Windows 7 has much higher system requirements than any commercially available PPC have right now.. However , it is possible to emulate DOS and windows 95 on ur PPC
Guest thekevster Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 assuming you are referring to windows phone 7, it is possible but unlikely that it will be and even if it was it wouldnt be a full-featured version. wm7 has alot of features that the omnia cant support like 3d acceleration and multitouch. i would be happy with just a theme along with the xbox and zune apps ported. i have a feeling we would be lucky to see even that though.

Guest Sb. Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 i900 is ancient technology dude! Judging from the video of windows 7 im not too impressed either at the moment with the visuals.
Guest johnsie Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Yeah, the Omnia is now dated. It was barely able to run Winmo6.5 let alone Android. Windows 7 will be aimed at newer, higher spec phones and requires multitouch capable hardware. The Omnia does not have the hardware in it to deal with multitouch. I enjoyed the Omnia but have now moved to the Nokia E63, which seemed like a downgrade at the time but has proved itself to be more reliable than my Omnia. It can do multiple email addresses (including exchange), has a 3.5mm headphone socket, Spotify and an app store as well as a 2/3 day battery life. That's all I need for a phone. If I want to take photos I use my digital camera because it's better at dealing with motion than most phone cameras. I was lucky if my Omnia lasted a full day and being a programmer I need to have access to my companies IT systems 24 hours a day. Anyway, enough of my life story... I think someone might try to put WinMO 7 on an Omnia because we nerds like doing that kind of thing, but that doesn't mean it will work well or at all :-)

Windows Mobile Seven Series Requires capacitive touchscreen. there will be no Winmo7 for onmia II either. for me just HD2 will be able to run it for now.

Guest chandanbs Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Also, WinMo7 is based on CE 6.0 core whereas WinMo6.x were based out of CE 5.0 kernel. There is change in Memory Management and Process Space. imo it will be very difficult to port WM7 to Omnia.
Guest g3n3ral Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Also, WinMo7 is based on CE 6.0 core whereas WinMo6.x were based out of CE 5.0 kernel. There is change in Memory Management and Process Space. imo it will be very difficult to port WM7 to Omnia. so omnia story ends in 6.5...
Guest Billus Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 so omnia story ends in 6.5... .3. Windows 7 Phone Series looks fantastic though. Can't wait till the first of the 7 Series phones get launched, I must hold back and wait for one with a hardware qwerty keyboard, texting on a touchscreen phone is a pain.
Guest taiter Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 i personally don't like the loss of multi-talking in winmo 6.5 and 7. and the UI lock on winmo 7 seems to be a loss also. those were some of the main things i enjoyed about winmo and could hold above iphone users. definitely pushing my next choice away from HD2 and towards Nexus one or similar
Guest Lunchbox77 Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 i love my omnia, with 6.5.X and lite apps, but i'm waiting for a samsung phone with amoled this year with win phone 7. looks fresh and new, so this is the year to say goodbye to the old flesh, long live the new flash (hope omnia3)
Guest aaak2000 Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 YES IT WILL BE POSSIBLE!!! READ THIS Is this realy possible???
Guest abu_gaby Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 No Windows Phone 7 as it is called not WinMo 7 will not be available for omnia minimum requirements for hardware is VGA confirmed by microsoft and i doubt that we will be seeing it for omnia i900 any time soon but maybe for the omnia 2 and the best is to have capacitive screen to support multitouch
Guest g3n3ral Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 just wait and see...................
Guest jms2367 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 In interview given by Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President of Windows Phone Program Management. Windows Mobile Seven Series Requires capacitive touchscreen. there will be no Winmo7 for onmia II either. for me just HD2 will be able to run it for now. have you guys not been paying attention to what the microsoft rep is saying in this interview? Windows Phone 7 is a new OS and it is no way related to the old Windows Mobile. New hardware requirement which is capacitive screen is one of the requirement stated. Err, what is the screen of the omnia? The last time I looked, my omnia has resistive touchscreen. WM 6.5 you say has been ported to the omnia, true. But Winmo is designed to be backwards compatible. That's what winmo is. But and a big but, windows phone 7 series is not windows mobile. It is a different OS. Well, to those who have been using winmo here for quite sometime, when WM6.5 was announced, how many leaked builds of WM6.5 was released that can be ported and how early was those ported before the launch date? (WM6.5 was launched October last year but it had been ported to different devices way way before that date). And now, Windows Phone 7 series can be ported to the omnia? Where are the leaked builds if we ever dream that it is compatible w/ the omnia. Just asking. Anyway it is free to dream. :( Sorry for my lengthy post. cheers!
Guest Bruno Adler Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 chef's is there any chance that our i900 omnia can run winmo 7? There's no way. Maybe for HD2. Not even for Omnia 2 it'll be available.

Guest thescope Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) No it will NOT work. Why? Omnia has NO dedicated video chip. WinPho7 needs a real 3D chip to render the interface, the Omnia uses the CPU for video same as buying a PC with an Intel video card. Edited February 24, 2010 by thescope

Since I8000 and i900 still resistive there's no way.
Guest jms2367 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Ok here's the minimum hardware requirements for Windows phone 7 as published in gsmarena: http://www.gsmarena.com/minimum_hardware_r...d-news-1470.php
