Guest ock Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) I've gotten a few queries on how I managed to change all the icons in my roms. Here's a short guide to changing those icons in the settings folder. 1. Most of the start menu icons link to seccplmain.cpl. Open the start menu, and drag the icon you want to change to a different location. Just re-order them, make them as messy as possible. This will create a new "ItemPosition" key in the registry, which will help us determine which icon is which. A bit more on this "ItemPosition" key. The screenshot below shows how the value of ItemPosition is determined. Beam would be in position 0, Data Manager would be at 4 etc. 2. Now we move Browser Connection to the top left hand corner: This would create a key "ItemPosition" with value 0. 3. Now, connect you phone to your PC via activesync and run CeRegEditor. 4. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Settings\Connections 5. You'll see some entries below this key, e.g. SecCPLMain.cpl, 5. Now, click through them to find one which has "ItemPosition" set to "0". In this case, the key for our BrowserConnection icon is SecCPLMain.cpl, 4 (see screenshot above) 6. Create a new string value named "Icon". Set the path to the new icon. 45x45 pngs work fine for me. 7. Don't forget to copy your pngs to the path you specified. Once done, soft reset to see the changes. Our new icon: As a bonus, JWMD Icon Changer will also detect the new changes, you can use it to customise the icons again if you want to. Note: You can change more than one icon at a time, just use "ItemPosition" as a guide to which icon you're changing. Hope you'll find the above useful. :D Edited February 16, 2010 by ock

Guest n.pikota Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Check if your file is not saved as read only. Works for me. Cheers Thank you Bruno. I have discovered the problem was the PHM RegEditor that does not work right, not saving the change.
