Smart Dialer on Nexus One

How hard can it be for Google to have the Android keyboard 'Smart' Dial?

Sense UI does it. As do a number of applications freely available on the market today.

Why isn't this most basic of features available OOTB?

As far as I know it does smart dial.

Unless your definition of smart dial is different from mine. You didn't say.

No it doesn't, not like the sense smart dial.

It'll only be a short time until it gets ported across from the desire, the delay has been the wvga display apparently, the desire has this hence the imminent port.

Easily the biggest failing of the nexus, especially if you've had a sense enabled phone.

Yes, I used to own a UK HTC Hero and its definitely something I miss on my Nexus 1.

And yeah, I know you can simply do a search for the contact, but its the little things that bring me joy :D

I totally agree, we need a real smart dialer on the N1. The Hero/Sense one was awesome.

hopefully this is available in the Desire and will be ported into the next MCR for N1 :D

Agreed, I miss it too.

So much easier to punch letters into the dialpad than drop to contacts, search - especially if you use Swype too.

Have you tried NubDial?

I'd prefer this to be built-in, and not being necessary to install another 3rd party phone and contacts app...

Have you tried NubDial?

nubdial is pretty good, but ....is not the same with "smart dial" from Hero :D

SuperDial is perfect for that.

Look at the market.
