Loading up the Desire ROM on the Nexus One (my findings so far)

I thought i'd start a topic about loading up the Desire ROM on the Nexus One. I'm sure i'm not the only one that'll be doing it!

Findings so far (updated)...

- If you rebuild the boot image replacing the kernel it runs. I'm running my own custom kernel with himem and bits.

- The system.img doesn't fit on the N1 (!), it's nearly 200MB. I booted by moving some stuff off the system partition.

Working

- Trackball

- 4 bottom keys

- Proximity sensor

- LED

- Light sensor

- Compass and G sensor

- Flash 10.1

- WiFi

- Bluetooth

- Mic and noise cancellation works

Not working

- 800x480 is max res for video recording, camera maxes out at 3MP, flash doesn't fire (early camera pp, fixed in later builds)

- FM radio doesn't work

- There are frequent graphical glitches - this could be related to the watermark code or an early build issue, investigating

More to follow! :D

Paul: Feel free to post som screenshots if possible. Do you think we'll be able to hack it on to our Nexus One phones?

How's the speed on the rom?

Posted

I think hacking it across will definitely be possible... the build I have isn't that final yet, so i'm not spending too much time on it.

Speed is excellent.

Cool News :D

Does the leaked Rom also have Flash 10.1 Support already ? That would be awesome.

Anyway I hope we can try this out soon too !

Hmm, not checked - think I need to get myself a spare N1, lol! :D

Some stores here in Norway have said March 10th as date for the Desire. Final rom can't be far away. Wouldn't mind testing the rom on my Nexus. Hope you can release a beta for us to test Paul. Keep up the great work.

For all the optimizations you do Google should give you and Cyanogen one for free :D

But most likely that wont happen since everything you two do isn't official, but I hope you're gonna get a few spare N1's soon to experiment with.

I second that, but as you say: It's highly unlikely! :D

Paul, although this might sound lame, can you please extract the live and static wallpapers from the Desire and upload them somewhere? that chromatic mixture on Desire and Legend looks great! :D

Hey Paul do you know whether the Desire actually has the rumoured high def video recording? Is there a way to see it in the camera app?

A release of ROM with sense UI will convince me to replace my "Ad free" account to a "Modaco Plus" one :D :D

This is what we're talking about right? :D

P

ok, that's not fair! :D can you use the HTC Sense widgets (for email, contacts) and other Sense features? by the way, did i say i was jealous!

Top effort Paul.

Does the camera support touch to focus and face recognition (as per the Desire specs on HTC).

As prev poster said, does FM work or will this require a new radio flash ?

What is missing / not working ?

Posted

No radio yet - that's the only thing not working atm, but I suspect if we can flash the Desire radio, that might work too.

Yeah, touch focus works and face detection is there.

Great job Paul!

Does it have all the benefits of the nexus one, like noise cancellation etc?

Oh my god!!!

I can't believe it! Please also port it to MCR 1.6! :D

Browser has Flash 10.1 installed. :D
