Guest feelmychi Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 er... I'm glad you're excited... but I'm not really feeling anything at all. So why should I care about it? Imagine being able to walk into a shop, and buy anything simply by touching your phone onto a receiver! Imagine being able to exchange business cards with people simply by touching your phones together! Imagine being able to pick up coupons or advertisments by simply touching your phone on a poster or something! And those aren't even half of the uses :D feelmychi
Guest xangma Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Don't they already have a bit of this technology included in SIM cards?
Guest jonathonf Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Gosh yes! Imagine someone being able to take all of my contacts without taking my phone! Or make calls using my SIM without my phone! Or cloning my SIM without taking my phone! I can't wait! /sarcasm I guess I just can't see the need.

You can't honestly think that there isn't any security with it XD In japan where basically every phone has NFC, I know for a fact that passwords have to be entered if you want to do something like that :D Also, NFC only works at a range of about 4 cm, so, even if there was no security, you'd still be pretty safe; unless someone wanted to molest you... ;P feelmychi

Guest McSpoon Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Personally, I was surprised the G1 didn't have NFC. It would have set the ball rolling for all Android devices to have it too. I think eventually it will become more widespread in smartphones. NFC makes bluetooth pairing soo much simpler. And, for things like shopsavvy, it would be easier than scanning barcodes. Although I wouldn't use an Android device as an oyster card for the London tube, thats just asking to be mugged. :D
Guest psionandy Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 (edited) Imagine being able to walk into a shop, and buy anything simply by touching your phone onto a receiver! Imagine being able to pick up coupons or advertisments by simply touching your phone on a poster or something! And those aren't even half of the uses :D feelmychi er... strangely enough the payment part of being in a store isn't a problem.... I give cash, swipe card, enter pin... its the queuing, to do that that takes the time not the transaction itself. Business cards I swap via Bluetooth to those I want to swap with... and have done for years. I don't want to pick up coupons by touching my phone with anyone... and if I did then I'd be more interested in a location based service such as foursquare that didn't make me queue up next to a poster to get my coupon. It all sounds like an idea dreamt up by marketing people as a means to solve their problems, and nothing that people genuinely want. You can't honestly think that there isn't any security with it XD In japan where basically every phone has NFC, I know for a fact that passwords have to be entered if you want to do something like that :D Also, NFC only works at a range of about 4 cm, so, even if there was no security, you'd still be pretty safe; unless someone wanted to molest you... ;P feelmychi oh... so I now have to enter passcodes on my phone.. at 4cm away. Well thats just going to make it harded to get those business cards, and coupons across. And I'm still going to have to queue to get to within 4cm of a swipe point instead of a chip and pin... So where is the benefit to me as a consumer... as I can't see one at all. All the benefit goes to people selling the devices, or selling advertising using the device. All I get to do is pay for it.
