December Update Flash Fail

Hello,

I have a T-Mobile Pulse running the stock ROM pre-December update. The phone is not rooted.

When attempting to upgrade with the December update, the process fails at the unpacking stage. The following are the contents of the log file:

macbookpro:tools stephenn$ ./adb shell

$ cd sdcard

$ cd dload

$ ls -l

-rwxrwxrwx system system 0 2009-10-25 04:03 userdata.hwcfg

-rwxrwxrwx system system 117125644 2009-11-27 08:45 UPDATA.APP

-rwxrwxrwx system system 107 1903-10-18 17:31 sd_update.log

$ cat sd_update.log

**** SD download log ****

(fread_retry >= SD_FILE_RD_RETRY) failed!

dload_sd_cp_and_chk_file_data failed!

Is this an issue with signatures? I would be grateful for any help to get this fixed.

Previously I had the phone rooted with the pre-December ROM. When I accessed recovery mode to flash to the December update, I was given the following error:

E:no signature (3 files)

I'll root the device once more and see if that helps to find a solution.

My advice ... for no reason is. Flash original Tmobile ROM. The exact one that came with the device, then download the Update again and then apply.

Thanks xangama. I have been able to to flash to the original T-Mobile ROM. However, updating to December still fails for the same reasons as above. In addition to the errors above, I get: E:Verfication failed.

I have extracted the img files from the December update and attempted to flash the device with the system, boot, recovery, etc images using flashboot. The device gets past the android logo, then attempts to load, then fails and reboots.

I've had a search across the site, but I'm unable to find out how to create a system.img file so I can flashboot to the original stock ROM. I can't find mkyaffs2image for the Mac OS X and neither Windows. I could install Linux, but I'd rather not if I can get away with it. If someone has the system.img file for the stock ROM, I'd be grateful if I could have a copy, or even just a way to get back to original stock from fastboot.

As to why I can't upgrade, I am running out of ideas...

After repeated attempts, changing SD and more repeated attempts it finally worked. Time for the custom ROMs :D
