Guest swatcheez Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 (edited) I have Vanilla1.7, and for the past week, I have had an error, "could not connect to the server, will try again shortly", and it won't log into google talk. If I turn airplane mode on then off again, it will log in, but then 10min later, will stop again, - when it logs in, my emails will push again. This only happens on 3g and 2g, if I turn wifi on, it works fine. I tried clearing the data for all teh im, gtalk and gmail bits, but now it won't let me reregister my google account- even on wifi. Not keen on a full wipe/reflash. What can i do? (and internet browsing works fine throughout) Edited February 18, 2010 by swatcheez
Guest starkos Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Someone had the exact same issue (re-registering g-mail account) a couple days ago & made a thread where he also posted the solution. This is the thread I think :D http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...t-a-hard-reset/
Guest mark2410 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 could tmobile be blocking the traffic?

This is the thread I think :D http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...t-a-hard-reset/ I have the similar issue only started yesterday. How do I delete data/data/com.android.providers.settings? When I go to data folder in my root, I see nothing there. I don't have root access, do I need one for this? I am using Astro file manager for checking this?

Guest starkos Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 OK now I have got the root access, but still can't find this directory. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks How are you trying to access that directory, are you still using Astro as that won't work? You can use Root Explorer (paid app) or ES File Explorer (free app) to access /data/data. You can also use adb, which is easiest if you know how (i'm not good with adb :D ) If you choose Es, you need to activate root access in the apps settings..

I have downloaded Estrongs Explorer (I guess that's what you mean by Es explorer). Only because I am using Original Tmobile ROM with Dec update, I can't seem to be able to activate root explorer from settings. I am not sure about adb at all. Is there any other way? Seems like this is a known issue with android devices about broken pairing with google accounts and devices.

Above you stated that you now have root access, what did you mean by that as I assumed you had installed Paul's Superboot? Edit: There has to be an easier way of dealing with this issue than rooting your phone to delete that directory as your average user won't be able to do that? You could try changing your gmail account password? Edited February 18, 2010 by starkos

Have wiped it and reflashed it, and all is good, but im not happy

What I meant was that when I open ES explorer and go to settings and tick on "root explorer" option from the settings, it ask to select the type of ROM and no matter what I select it fails.

That's a weird one, I've only used it once & it worked, but I've got one of Paul's custom roms installed! All I can think of is either try & find the Root Explorer app on the internet or read up on how to use ADB.. Link with some hints on how to set up ADB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010 Link with ADB commands on removing data/data directory (few posts down) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5388031

Maybe first try rebooting the phone and clearing all data for all google apps in settings/manage applications, then delete the directory again & then reboot the phone again? No harm in trying if your going to wipe anyway.. Still can't believe there's not a simple solution to this, it's ridiculous!?

I think that may be only option now as I have searched google for last 2 days and seems like it is a widespread issues with android and different solution worked for different people and there isn't a common fix for this.
Guest starkos Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 It's crazy.. If I knew for sure if the directories in Data/Data rebuilt them selves on a reboot then I would say experiment deleting some of the other ones that start with com.google.android....etc? I can't imagine there being any serious consequences but I don't know for sure lol!

Talking about serious consequences, when I deleted that folder and rebooted my phone, I lost my fliplock on home page .... yes I wasn't able to lock the phone altogether. I went back to root explorer and saw a new folder was created there but rebooting again few times didn't bring back my fliplock. I read from google that people lost different settings and strange things happened to their phone after deleting their folder. Anyway I did the nandroid backup and gone back to original. Not sure when it will be fixed...hopefully Android 2.0/2.1 or another MCR will have a fix.

As if it were me, I would use the Titanium Backup app to backup all my important stuff & apps & just do a wipe then re-flash the rom..

As if it were me, I would use the Titanium Backup app to backup all my important stuff & apps & just do a wipe then re-flash the rom.. It's the same problem I've got. I thought deleting that folder had sorted me out, but the problem is back - can only connect to gtalk/market after disabling data service, and connection only lasts for a short period of time. I've wiped, reflashed the rom, rooted, superbooted, upgraded to the modaco rom - still got the problem. Looks like it's less a Pulse problem, and more a T-mobile problem... http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/discussions/...ageit.offset=30 Edited February 21, 2010 by fivegoldstars
