Guest GateheaD Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Hey, I'm off to a festival on Sunday (2 Days away) and would love to use the Dell Wasabi printer with the HTC Hero. I know Host Mode for USB is able to be enabled at the moment, just wondering if anyone has ever tried anything like this? I don't mind trialing things out on my phone if people don't have access to a similar USB device. Hope you can help, Thanks
Guest GateheaD Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Note: It does Bluetooth printing but I cant find an app that will let me send pics via bluetooth on the Hero that works (bluetooth file transfer app doesnt work)
Guest kouray Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Hi GateheaD. I don't think that you can do it by plugging your printer to your phone (because drivers probably won't work on android). Did you try apps like PrinterShare or CyPria ? I don't know about bluetooth but it supports wifi.

The Android bluetooth stack is very rudimentary, especially in the Android 1.5 that our Heroes run. Android 2.1 supports a few more protocols, but I'm not sure whether or not you'd be able to use a BT printer even with that. USB Host mode is also not supported by Android yet, I know there are some hacking efforts going on to try to enable it but I don't think they've gotten very far yet. There are some hardware limitations as I understand it, you'd also need a custom kernel to enable the Linux drivers for the USB devices you want to use, and then you'd need special apps to interact with those drivers.
Guest GateheaD Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 From my nokia N81 I can BT send a file to the printer and it comes out fine. Wish BlueX or BlueFTP worked, they both just crash.
