Some Omnia i910 issues that I can't figure out. Please help.

I received Omnia i910 yesterday and have spent a lot of time getting familiar with it. The phone is not intuitive compare to iphone but I am getting better…

A few things I still can’t quite figure out…. I am hoping someone can help me out here. It still have the official WM6.1 ROM

1. Is there a way I can disable the phone from using my carrier’s data plan? I only want to use data when connected to wifi.

2. How do I lock the screen? Can I assign a button to it?

3. When making a call it always ask me to press an action key to unlock touch keys… it really bothers me.

4. Checking for Window update always fails on me, is it using EVDO only? Can I check update through wifi?

Thanks

Brian

1. There are programs that will block the data connection, or you can change the dial number under Settings -> Connection -> Modem. you said i910, so i'm assuming Verizon. It will show "Broadband Access" with #777 as the dial number, just erase that, or remove your user/pass from that screen after you click "edit" on the main.

2. you can set it to lock automatically when you "suspend" it. This is found under Settings -> Personal -> Buttons, the Wake Up tab. Otherwise, you can press and hold the End Call button and it will lock.

3. Under Settings -> Personal -> Phone, the services tab has "Dialer Touch Lock" which can be disabled. If its not listed, you are running the original firmware and you should update. GPS is enabled on that screen also.

4. Windows Update on WinMo has basically never worked. Carriers handles updates, so its useless to try.

any other questions post up or send a PM. always happy to help people get the full use out of their devices, you should learn to love the Omnia soon!

Thanks for the help, especially on the Dialer Touch Lock setting 'cause that one really annoying me. Since I have the office VM Rom I am assuming my GPS is locked, ( I will install cooked ROM later in the future) is that why Locate Me does not work? It does not seem to be working for me.

Depends on how old the phone is. If it shipped recently, it should have CF03 on it, and the GPS should be unlocked, you just need to go into start>settings>personal>phone and set GPS to "location on" inside there, soft reset, agree to the screen that comes up, and you should be set.

aye, you will need to flash to the official version CF03 ROM before any cooked ones also. make sure you follow directions very closely and its pretty quick and painless :D

Yep, my phone has the latest official version CF03 ROM already, I am going to spend a few more days with it and then move on to a cooked for.

Thank you guys, the GPS works now but Locate me is not working yet. Does it use EVDO to locate? I have the data plan disabled. Can it not use wifi?

I have an ipod touch and Locate me in ipod touch works great. I thought Locate me uses wif to triangular the position, no?

Hey, another question....

I thought when clicking the x mark on the upper right corner of an app would just exit the app, I guess it is not..... it just minimizes it. For the first time I opened up task manager today and I saw all the apps that I thought I had closed and they all take up memory space.

Some apps do have exit option available in its menu but some don't. How do you close/exit an app?

since its the stock firmware, slide up from the very bottom of the screen in the middle, it will bring up Samsung's Task Switcher with 2 buttons, one to kill a selected program, one to kill all running programs.

there are taskbar replacements/mods you can get that will allow you to do this easily, theres many programs you can use for this and map one of them to one of the buttons on the side also. personally i use the Task Switcher and map it to the top button on the right side, hit end all and voila.

Locate me uses cell tower triangulation, so it won't work on WiFi. Google Maps *may* work on WiFi, it does on the iPod touch at least.
