Stone dead hero

I tried to upgrade to the 3.1 rom. I booted from recovery and installed first the rom-zip and then the radio.

When I rebooted I got an icon with a box with an arrow pointing to the phone. At this point I fumbled with the phone and managed to remove the battery. After inserting the battery again the phone is completely dead.

I get no reaction when I press the power button or plug in the usb cord. There is no light turning on if I put in the power cord either.

Is there anything I can do to revive my hero?

/Fredrik

Sounds like a brick I'm afraid. I did it to mine, and others have too.

The instructions for flashing radios re not clear enough and don't point out that the flashing is going on when you see that graphic, you just have to leave it and wait. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

On the good side, mine was repaired under warranty by T-Mobile who simply replaced the mainboard and were non the wiser to the reasons for the fault ;-)

i still found strange, that when u kill your phone like this, there is no way of fixing it your self, lets say service wont replace any physical hw, how they can make hero come to life? there is no custom port that i know of (like on nokia, se... cellphones) so what are we missing ?

Well the service usually can't revive the phone in these kind of situations, and just replace the motherboard. So I don't think we are missing a tool that they have =)

i'm really sorry for upping this thread but thought it worth it. this happened to me just now, installing a radio rom. i may have clicked reboot too early - didn't think so but further message was on screen about flash ongoing (paraphrase). anyway removed battery for a while & stuck it back in=same, so came straight here, searched, saw this thread & just wanted to die. then the phone vibrated & booted into recovery.

about to flash a rom (not the radio. ever. again). will post again if all is well...

my heart is pounding like f***. <_<

NEVER remove the battery while flashing.

I did it once and fortunately didn't kill my hero but for people who aren't aware of the process it can seem like everything's gone wrong and that a battery pull is appropriate. Or at least 3 of us.

Updating the radio isn't a big deal at all, but you gotta let it complete.

yeah, it's fine. just titaniuming now.

thing is, i flashed the radio yesterday and it seemed to just whizz through it. lesson learned for me though....

edit: and i flashed the radio again & reception is full 4 bars which i've never seen <_<

You could try leaving the battery out for a while, give it say 5-10 mins and then put the battery back in.

Try pressing home and power together when you turn it on to see if you can boot the recovery console.

Hold down the back button and see if you can boot the HBOOT.

If these steps fail, try hooking up the cable and using the Hero RUU to reflash the phone, spl and radio.

If that doesn't work, send the phone back for repair.
