Guest Jeremy Goh Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Hello, recently I have used a HTC Hero (GSM) for 4 months and I wish to root my device and enable SU on it. But I wish to have all the applications and stuff with me with Android Market update support. So what I thought was, is there a way to root, like Instant Root (Which did not work out for me), and leave the current stock ROM I am using, intact. I have no intentions of upgrading my stock rom to a custom rom. Can I do that? Build number: 2.73.707.9 146733 CL#62020 release-keys Software Version : 1.0.0.A6288 Kernal : 2.6.27-44690c1a ( htc-kernal@and18-2 ) Thanks, Jeremy
Guest descenpet Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 i'm sorry to say this, but the only way to root SG hero with 2.73.707.9 build is to use gold card and RUU/heroimg, that will wipe everything on your hero. there is no other way around as of now.

Guest descenpet Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 (edited) Titanium won't run on non rooted phones. Never tried the other one before. Edited February 20, 2010 by descenpet
Guest Dr. dre Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Titanium won't run on non rooted phones. Never tried the other one before. You can also go for Sprite Backup.
Guest Jeremy Goh Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 You can also go for Sprite Backup. I thought Sprite Backup backs up the entire phone including the ROM?
Guest Jeremy Goh Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 After transferring my applications to a new ROM, is there a way to allow the Market to recognize those applications? Or Market will recognize them by default?
Guest Dr. dre Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 After transferring my applications to a new ROM, is there a way to allow the Market to recognize those applications? Or Market will recognize them by default? As You can't use titanium backup, so what i'll suggest you is you backup all your apps and (no sprite backup doesn't backup's the whole ROM) flash a new ROM, when you restore all your apps(there won't be default entries in the market) all you have to do is just open market and open all those apps in the market which you have installed and the market will automatically detect that it is already installed on your phone. Since you have no other option.

Guest Dr. dre Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 What is the strong point of titanium backup? It places the apps entries automatically in the market, the ones you have already installed.
Guest sinnadyr Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Titanium won't run on non rooted phones. Never tried the other one before. Hm? Yes you can, but you wont get all the rooted features... It's def the best backup app there is. And yeah, market will recognize ur apps automaticaly, but why dont u just redownload? Or do this: Flash ur recovery, install a new ROM -without- wiping, have a titanium backup off ur whole phone (batch -> backup all or something), then wipe ur phone, and install the rooted ROM then do a TB-restore :( The reason is that a ROM almost always works much better on a wiped phone, have had a lot of issues when just installing it on top of the old one...
Guest sunstorm Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Hi Jeremy, sorry I didn't see this post earlier. I too bought a Hero in Singapore. the rom you're using is common to all of us here. you can root without downgrading. I will upload a complete package with instructions in .txt format for you. Hopefully this helps all the users who like me want root but prefer using the stock rom due to the preference of having a trouble free chinese input :(Root.zip

Hopefully this helps all the users who like me want root but prefer using the stock rom due to the preference of having a trouble free chinese input <_< Hi Sunstorm, I have the generic rom HTC Generic 2.73.751.4 (as 2.73.405.5 + Chinese support) installed on my hero from this page: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...t-for-gsm-hero/ It seems to have the best chinese support and works well here in Beijing. I'd like to root it as it isn't rooted. I downloaded your "Root.zip" zipped folder. I don't see any .txt file with instructions though. All I have in the zip are: adb.exe AdbWinApi.dll flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.1.img su Superuser.apk I've already run flashrec and loaded the recovery image on my phone as per the "one click root method", and have installed several rooted roms. As stated above though, the generic unrooted rom works best for me in China. I'd like to root this generic rom though so I can use MarketEnabler_v3.0.8.apk in order to get paid apps to show up in the marketplace. I'd be greatly appreciative if you could post some instructions of how to use these tools. Regards, Doug
Guest descenpet Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 if you already have Amon_RA recovery, boot into recovery, connect USB and try this. adb shell mount /system adb push su /system/bin/ adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/ adb shell reboot
Guest Superfly767 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Awesome! Thanks guys. That worked well! Good to know that I can root a generic rom. Regards, Doug

Lets say i want to use MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM, cos its said to be more responsive. how do i do it... i am still new, just got the phone yesterday.
Guest descenpet Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 How can we root singapore's Hero phone? Lets say i want to use MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM, cos its said to be more responsive. how do i do it... i am still new, just got the phone yesterday.he said it is possible to root sg hero without downgrading and just disappeared. i didn't see such info anywhere else. if you want to use modaco custom rom, just use goldcard downgrade method. downgrading will erase everything on your phone so you will want to do when the phone is new, no data to lose so no need to worry about backup and such. use these guides. http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/18/how-to-do...-can-be-rooted/ http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-ro...o-in-one-click/ http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-lo...-your-htc-hero/ you will need to follow first guide and then second one then third one. some things to note: the first guide say you need card adapter and reader. not really. you can use your hero as card reader. when it ask you to download RUU, just download the alternate RUU from the link at the bottom. it seems to work better. for 2nd guide, download latest Amon_RA recovery directly from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 for custom rom, download MCR3.2 from http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...online-kitchen/
Guest sunstorm Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Hi guys, the package that i uploaded above is outdated except for the flashrec.apk <_< only with that version of flashrec can you upload Amon-RA's brilliant custom recovery using the one-click method on rom's from Singapore. Once the custom recovery is up, you can basically do anything. Even just root the stock rom or just flash a rooted rom.
