Voice search / text not working

I have installed the voice search and voice text apps, and I have enabled voice text in the settings menu. Yet whenever I try to launch it I get an error message immediately, audio problem with an exclamation mark and speak again and cancel options. I have tried over and over again to get it working, but its not having any of it. I would love to get it running, would make texting dead easy in certain circumstances.

I dont think Voice works in 1.5, wait for 2.1 to be out for the pulse and it should natively work, I think so anyway :D

Voice Search works effortlessly on the HTC Hero which is also Android 1.5 (use to use it all the time when faced with iPhone users)

I guess the search goes on for a solution! <_< But as you said with 2.1 there is a good chance this will there as a default app :(
