Android 1.6 based ROMs (and Instructions)

Given that the current Android 2.1 leak is rather slow

Yes the Android 2.1 custom roms do give it a boost, but it is still slow, and very... unsmooth compared to Android 1.6

Not to mention lacking some features found in 1.6 (Acer widgets, viewing running apps screen previews, locking to 3g only mode, 5 row launcher, etc)

Will there be any more work on improving Android 1.6 based roms?

Angio has removed his links for ACR 1.5.1

We do have a working and modifiable kernel for Android 1.6 that has multi-touch and is overclocked to 920MHz, by disc0

Superboot Kernels (boot.img)

Basic Superboot Kernel

Modified Superboot Kernels

1GHz, 768MHz, Both with Multitouch support (with Dolphin browser)

These kernels are compiled from Acer's released kernel source. These kernels may have bugs and issues as they are compiled from an old development version of the kernel (thats what Acer released).

Not all Liquids will run at 1GHz, or run stably at 1GHz. For those there is the 920MHz kernel with MT, again not guaranteed to work with all Liquids

Lickon's Recovery Image

You will need

One of the above roms

Acer's 2.000.16 .bin file

Acer's Download tool

Android SDK installed on your PC

A superboot kernel

Lickon's Recovery Image

You will need to

1) Install Android SDK if you haven't done so already

2) Use the Acer download tool to flash to 2.000.16 ROM

3) Boot into boot loader (hardware button combiniation or "adb reboot bootloader")

4) Install superboot for 2.000.16 - "fastboot -i 0x0502 flash boot <boot image>"

5) Install lickon recovery image - "fastboot -i 0x0502 flash recovery <recovery image>"

6) Reboot device - "fastboot -i 0x0502 reboot"

7) Copy Angio ACR 1.5.1 .zip file into root of SD card

8) Boot into recovery (hardware button combiniation or "adb reboot recovery")

9) Select "Wipe dalvik-cache" (device may restart and boot into recovery, thats ok)

10) Select "Wipe data" (device may restart and boot into recovery, thats ok)

11) Update to Angio ACR 1.5.1 by selecting "Apply any zip from sd", then selecting Angio's ACR 1.5.1 .zip file

12) Select "Reboot system now"

**Disclaimer: I and any persons involved in the creation and/or distribution of these ROMs and modifications are not responsible for any data loss caused, damaged caused or money lost. Users of the ROMs are using these roms at their own risk.

By going from the stock rom and updating to the 2.000.16 .bin file (or any .bin file), you may not be able to completely revert to the original firmware on your device

This means warranty will be void, and if something does go wrong, then Acer won't fix it for you.

Only when Acer releases an official ROM (posted on their support webpage with a set of terms and conditions and/or a disclaimer) you will be able to go to official firmware completely. Only then you will be able to claim warranty again.

I'm hoping that Angio continues on his great work with Android 1.6

More instructions and links to be added tomorrow

The theme itself isnt good, transparent power widget does not work on a bright background

I'm with chingy1788 here. While 2.1 is cool and everything, it's nowhere near being "production usable". I appreciate the work you put in, but I also hope someone could continue the work Angio made with the latest Donut ACR.

Give some love for ye olde Donut :D

Would you have to flash the 1.6 bin first because of the radio?

Yep. I tried using system.img and boot from 1.6 (2.000.16) and radio from 2.1, but it didn't work.

You try through nandroid, fastboot or via update?

Flashed 2.1 with Acer tool, then flashed 1.6 system, boot and recovery with fastboot. Finally wiped data with lickonn recovery and booted. System booted fine and most of stuff worked but no network (GSM) or bluetooth etc. Didn't spend more time digging around. Also, Baseband version said "Unknown".

A new thread should be made for those Android 1.6 Roms

Devs, don't forget Android 1.6

theres a kernel, multi touch, overclocking, Acer's UI (its not just the two widgets)

Theres talk of FM radio

Keep improving 1.6, until the official 2.1 comes out

I reinstalled a 2.00016 bin using the AcerTool, then Nandroid restored my phone from a 1.6 backup (prior to going to 2.1).

Everything is back to ACR1.51.

The speed is amazing and is clearly why I enjoyed using the phone so much.

2.1 had me thinking I was back to using the old HTC Magic/sapphire.

Fully support this thread!

Usually a wipe is required before flashing to a new rom

Yeah that would be wise but you should also ask EvilD to join forces with all off other devs to make that 2.1 better when it arrives. It's better to have one bug free custom ROM than many kinda decent ones. What do you think?
