Guest rjm2k Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Stock Dec ROM, no root etc though I have the recovery image flashed. I'm having a strange issue when downloading apps from the market, I select them to install and nothing happens, the starting download bar appears and nothing happens and no downloading icon appears in the notification area, particularly on 2G and 3G. Occasionally on wifi it works ok. Anyone else had this issue? I've also noticed that sometimes the download happens but the app doesn't get installed, this was happening for a while before the lack of actual downloads began. Edited February 23, 2010 by rjm2k

There is a "fix" out there to delete the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings but that does a whole lot more. I lost the ability to lock the phone and lost a load of other settings. I have done a backup before so managed to recover the folder. It did however fix the problem so there must be a setting in the database that has become corrupt but I have not have the time to look into it. Paul
Guest BigBearMDC Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 If you could pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings of your device and upload it I would take a look at it :( Greetings, BigBear

Open the GoogleTalk app first and make sure it signs you in, then go to the Market & try downloading an app..

Paul I don't know if it does. But if you upload it it would be better to copy it into a password protected archive - just in case it does. Greetings, BigBear Edited February 23, 2010 by BigBearMDC
Guest Spoke Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Open the GoogleTalk app first and make sure it signs you in, then go to the Market & try downloading an app.. Thanks that worked for me as I had the same problem. Wouldn't sign in to GoogleTalk the first time but then it retried & succeeded & after that was able to download from the Market.

Its a known issue on Tmobile nowadays...There is already a thread open with name "Can't sync gmail/talk". Regarding the solution for me switching off the data and on works for brief period and back to same error. I have tried deleting that folder as mentioned in this thread but it didn't work for me...and yeah like other people I lost some settings as well including fliplock. A quick search on google suggest it may be Tmobile issue...other threads suggest known android issue...Still waiting for a solution which works always....

My problem started after I bought an app in the market. Looking at the database, gtalk is talking on secure port 5228 and I am wondering if t-mobile uk have block it or if it was always blocked but since I bought something, gtalk changed to ssl. Paul
Guest fivegoldstars Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Definitely a TMob issue, because it is affecting other handsets, not just the Pulse. I tried the delete data/providers... folder and although it cured the problem for a little while, it came back. In effect, I think it just had the same effect as disabling data and re-enabling it. A search of the T-Mob forums will find lots of posts regarding this - rumour has it its a change made to the 3G network (which seems to be backed up by the fact that the problem doesn't occur on Wifi) - the only quick fix seems to be enabling airplane mode for a few minutes, but the fix only lasts for a short while.
Guest klutsh Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I have sent T-Mobile cust-rel a email regarding this, 2 days ago now, I provided them with links to show it is effecting all 3G handsets and not just android, Nokia 5800 won't connect to MSN or Facebook either. If I have not had a acceptable reply by 12:00 tomorrow I will be visiting my local T-Mobile store, they don't like me in the shop, I am one of the few how managed to get a full refund out of them 2 month's after buying a handset :( I know they have told others to contact Google direct, if they do tell you that, Don't it is not a Google issue, T-Mobile are the retailers it's for them to fix it.

Yes google talk works fine on Wifi, infact using a third party app like Fring, google talk works fine on 3G as well. However google talk app itself doesn't work.
Guest rjm2k Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Ok I think I've worked it out, it's content lock. They seem to have problems with it switching on when it's supposed to be off and then switching it off again can be difficult, I assume they are having problems, it also seems to have been extended to cover sites like the market. Assuming you are old enough try a site like www.babestation.co.uk to check if it's on for your phone. I just disabled it yet again and now market works.
Guest klutsh Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I have no trouble accessing the site you said, or any other that would be flagged by the content lock, yet still not Market downloads over 3G or GTalk

Confusing.... Paul

Guest peter_c Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Well done T-mobile. Yesterday I had no Market or G-talk, today there's no data network at all!
Guest rjm2k Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Well done T-mobile. Yesterday I had no Market or G-talk, today there's no data network at all! My net access is still working but Market has stopped yet again even though it was working last night, think it's safe to say that tmobile are having network issues!!

Most peculiar - I got them to resend the provisioning messages and that seemed to fix everything. 2G, 3G, net, G-Talk and Market all up and running great! Then 30 minutes later back to the original problem with G-Talk and Market, but at least it kept the data network. For now anyway!
Guest rjm2k Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Whatever it is, it's definatly either Google or Tmobile, I wiped my pulse and installed the Dec T Mobile ROM, same problem with that on.
Guest klutsh Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Well seeing as using WiFi or any network other than T-Mobile fixes the problem it has to be a T-Mobile fault. Ill test this theory later by installing a o2 iPhone sim.

Guest demusss Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I've got the same problem and I'm on 3 in the uk. I go to the market to download a new application or upgrade an existing one. Starts to download then stops and I get a notification "Download unsuccessful". Same problem with using my wifi at home. I'm using the vanilla 1.7 rom. Are there any logs to look at on the pulse to see why its failing?
