Saving my Exchange contacts?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So, I managed to nuke all my contacts in Outlook. Fortunately, they're all on my phone but I now can't sync with Exchange, because if I do, they'll all be deleted. Anyone know how I can export the Exchange contacts on my phone?

Thanks for those options! I was really getting annoyed, but in the end found http://www.androlib.com/android.applicatio...ntacts-zmm.aspx which also exported them to a CSV. Unfortunately, when I imported it into Outlook 27 (out of just over 300) contacts didn't import, and I then had to do a matching game to work out which ones didn't get imported, by exporting the Outlook contacts into a CSV. Of course, the way that the two apps formatted the names in the csv differed, so it was a bit of a headache, but I got there in the end :(.

I've now learnt my lesson - I'll use HTC sync to sync my contacts, and hide the Exchange contacts, and only use them if I add a contact in Exchange, and haven't had a chance to sync.

To be honest, it's pretty crummy - I know I messed up, but it shouldn't be so hard - there should be an option within Android or the People application to copy or migrate the contacts - and choose whether you want to keep Google, Exchange, and phone contacts synced.

I've used this, which creates a single VCF of all contacts:

There's also a new app, which exports to CSV (never used it myself)

There are others too, search for "csv contact" or "vcf contact"

Try backing up the phone contacts after that sync exchange contacts and then restore the backed up contacts

This will sound ridiculous, but how do you backup the phone contacts (short of using HTC Sync).

Try backing up the phone contacts after that sync exchange contacts and then restore the backed up contacts
