Opinions apperciated! Droid or Omnia 2

Was thinking of UPG to a new phone. Omnia i910 is my 1st "smart phone" on a windows mobile OS. I must say it has treated me nice. I like the apps that i have come across for media playing and some games. But i noticed a lot of new apps for WM are aiming for higher resolution were the i910 is a little guy qvga.

Was looking at the droid, multitouch/live wall paper seemed like a catchy selling point... being if verizon ever pumps out that 2.1 android update. I also heard the 2.1 for droid wont have live wall paper... so it would be like dealing with the GPS when i got my omnia i910 all over again. Not familiar with android OS either... kindve of a turn off... dont know what to look for as far as apps or tweaks. Keyboard seems nice for a change..?

On the other hand there is the omnia 2. Whats to say... bigger screen resolution? uh... faster processor? But its still running WM w/o any multitouch... ummmmmm... thats about it...? I was playing around with the store display omnia 2... and i must say my i910 is a bit faster. I know everyones dirty paws have been over the display unit, into settings and such, but i really feel my i910 is kindve beating the omnia 2...?

Any advice? Should i just stick to my guns till say... the nexus for verizon comes out? or is the droid / omnia 2 worth getting? Maybe ill just go off the deep end and buy the shroomed out ipad...

I would wait for the N1 the hardware is equal to the O2 and being the Android OS it will be more finger friendly. Once the N1 is rooted the it will kick the crap out of the O2. If you can't wait for the N1 the Droid has some great roms from the N1 and I believe they are running the cpu at 1.1ghz with no issues.

I would wait for the N1 the hardware is equal to the O2 and being the Android OS it will be more finger friendly. Once the N1 is rooted the it will kick the crap out of the O2. If you can't wait for the N1 the Droid has some great roms from the N1 and I believe they are running the cpu at 1.1ghz with no issues.

It means getting SuperUser privileges so that you can install whatever you want and load custom ROMs

Google updates its android platform for free in most cases. If you like android and don't want to risk rooting failure to upgrade your OS then this is a good option. Vote = Droid.

I admit Omnia 2 i920 is a bit sluggish out of the box, but once you flash and install a custom rom to get rid of the verizon bloatware, it is quick and more responsive. To make it even quicker you can overclock the 800mhz processor to 1040. This has been stable for me and have not had any issues with it and is running smoothly and fast!

that hardware keyboard seems like such a catch... but seems like verizon/moto are really keeping certain options closed on the droid (multi touch, live wall paper). I waited a full 6 months for just GPS on my i910... dont know if i want to go through something like that again. Plus i just read that the N1 coming to verizon might not have the multi touch enabled on its device....? Seems like more or less a rumor...

Anyone use a blue tooth keyboard with any of their devices? Seems like this would be an alternative for me if i want to go the N1 or i920 route. I like touch screen keyboards, sometimes... but everyone is a bit faster with some kindve hardware keyboard.

over the years with my Omnia, WM Treo, xv6700, and other various PPCs I am realizing that I have never been happy with WinMo. My old iPaq running linux worked great! Its time to go back to linux and give Android a shot. I am going to try to hold out for the N1.

The keyboard (htc) on the Droid Eris is OUTSTANDING. I can seriously haul on that thing. I pretty much avoided texted on the omnia, but the T9 on the factory keyboard on the Eris, combined with the fact that its a capacitive AND multitouch screen. Its amazing.

Oh, and Swype on the Eris is GREAT too!

I vote for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. P.S. Unlike most people think, Sony Ericsson X10 will support Android 2.1, will be a multitouch device, and will use the full potential of its screen and not only use 65k colors.

Rumor is that a CDMA version of the Nexus One has been approved by the FCC, and verizon will be picking it up around March. It may be worth waiting for that

Omnia2 if you want WinMo (or HD2 if you prefer speed/power over excessive price/size/nonAmoled), N1 if you want Android.

Nexus One is $529. You'll need service and a data plan anyway, so you might as well get a Droid or something that you can get with a contract for less money.

Well maybe not, because currently you can get a nexus one for $179 dollars with a T-mobile contract, so I figure Verizon would have some similar deal with the signing of a two year contract. This is all assuming the rumor is true anyway

I was a i910 guy but I got a Motorola Droid two days ago, and all I can say is WOW. It does everything out of the box that I had to force my Omnia to do. I love it. No lag, and with a little hacking you have multitouch and all apps you could want. The screen resolution and sensitivity are so much better it's not even comparable. You can also wait for the Nexus since it has the snapdragon processor, all those XDA developers, and also since the Droid physical keyboard isn't very good anyway. Just my 2cents.
