Guest NexusSpain Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 First of all, hi to all of you. Me being a noob with the Nexus, something VERY messed up has just happened to me. Let me explain from the beginning: I received the nexus yesterday as a gift from a friend of mine who works at Google (yes, it is the one with the android waving a banner on the back of the phone) Used it yesterday perfectly, even updated to 2.1.update perfectly fine. Today, as the batter was dying out, I finally got home and started to charge it (the battery icon was white, with a red outline and a red slash across the battery icon) Then, the Nexus stopped responding and turned off. When I tried to turn it back on, it just stays on the boot screen and does nothing. Now, I have tried the volume down + power button to get to the reset, chose "recovery" and it went right back to the frozen boot screen. To my knowledge, it is not rooted (although I have read that the Nexus' that employees receive are rooted, I have no idea) Now, I am stuck with a Nexus paperweight , it doesn't turn on and cant seem to get it out of the boot screen. Any one here can lend a hand??? P.S. I hope I posted in the correct forum and want to thank anyone that can help ahead of time!
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 If the boot screen has an Unlocked padlock on it, then it is unlocked... not rooted. How long have you left it on the boot screen for?
Guest NexusSpain Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) The is no pad lock when I boot the screen...what does that mean? I left the boot screen for varios sec, and the last two times, up to 5 min. BTW, got an update: I did the volume down + trackball + power on thingy and I connected the Nexus to my laptop. It comes out FASTBOOT USB in red, so it seems it is not totally bricked. Found the USB drivers and...that's where I am stuck. I know there is a way to recuperate the Nexus, but I have no idea how...any ideas? Edited February 26, 2010 by NexusSpain
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 The is no pad lock when I boot the screen...what does that mean? Means that it hasn't been unlocked or rooted, it's completely stock. I'd say, root it, stick on the Cyanogen mod :(
Guest NexusSpain Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Means that it hasn't been unlocked or rooted, it's completely stock. I'd say, root it, stick on the Cyanogen mod :( Ok...now for the noob question... How do I root it??? BTW, thanks for the help DougEdey!
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Ok...now for the noob question... How do I root it??? BTW, thanks for the help DougEdey! Take a look at the stickies in this forum, you need to put the recovery file on first then choose a diff one, if you want to try the Desire ALPHA (so bugggy) try it, or you can use the Cyanogen one.

Ok, I am a super noob (and I work with cell phones, go figure) I look and I look and it I can't make head or tails out of this. The first thing I need to do is install the USB drivers, but where are they (thought I found them, but I don't think they are the correct ones) and HOW to install it. I got me a windows vista, so that might help. PLEASE; any help would be greatly apreciated. PS. I've already read in a few fourms that if I can reach the fastboot USB, my "little baby" isn't bricked, so I know I got me some hope, know, just need the help! Thanks guys!!!!
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 I did mine from Windows 7 and I don't remember requiring drivers for it. http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...-the-nexus-one/ Follow those instructions :(

Thanks guys!!!! the drivers are found in the sdk (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ) now you can either unlock and root your phone, or reflash a stock rom. the choice is yours. there are various benefits of custom roms, but not all people need them :( all roms can be found in the sticky posts here. in case you want a stock rom, i'd suggest ERE27. Grab the IMAGE FORMAT download, put them on /sdcard/PASSIMG.zip, reboot phone to fastboot, press power and then vol-. if you'd rather go for custom roms, you have to unlock the phone first, thats described here: http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...your-nexus-one/ if you have any more questions, go ahead ^^

See, for the superboot, it has 3 choices "superboot for 'ERD79' (the original shipping ROM, 'ERE27' (the official update) or ERE36B (the new leaked update)." Since I can't turn the phone on to see the "about phone" settings, I have no idea which one to choose. Also, and it may help, I did do the full upgrade to 2.1 update last night. Sorry for bothering you so much...I know it is frustrating to help out a noob like me, so I apreciate it greatly!
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 I'd say you're on ERE27 since you had the Over The Air (OTA) update

I would like the stock rom back, but I have no idea what the benefits of custom roms are. As well, I live in apart of the world where the Nexus isn't even here yet, and when it does get here, I am sure a new update will bring lots of localization goodies like using the voice thingy, so I think keeping the stock rom is the safest bet from now. I am going to downlaod the link and read the link on how to you sent... I am sorry for being such a bother, truely I am!
Guest NexusSpain Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Ok, so how do I reflash a stock rom , since it means I wont have to unlock my "little baby"??
Guest DougEdey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 You will have to unlock it. If you want it back to normal without unlocking it you'll need to contact Google direct, I assume your friend will have to do it since it's a Google handout
Guest NexusSpain Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) the "27" doesn't have a image format. Only the "79" does. Do I install the "79"??? Too much info...NOOB brain getting confused...danger danger Will Robinson!!!! Edited February 26, 2010 by NexusSpain

Download IMAGE FORMAT ERD79, put it in /sdcard/PASSIMG.zip put phone in bootloader, press the power button, wait a second, press vol down. it will check for images and begin the flashing. wait until it's done. after that you can download the ere27 UPDATE ZIP FOR STOCK DEVICES DOWNLOAD, put it on /sdcard/update.zip and reboot to recovery. then it should flash (maybe you have to press okay, can't remember now) or just do the ota upgrade like you did before. All this can be done without unlocking! Edited February 26, 2010 by xkonni
